Patrick O'Hara Obituary

Visit the Hennessey Funeral Home & Crematory - Division Street website to view the full obituary.
Patrick Joseph O'Hara, 94, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026, in Spokane, Washington. Born on August 13, 1931, in De Smet, South Dakota, Patrick lived a full and remarkable life defined by service, dedication, and love for his family and community.

Patrick's early years were spent in rural South Dakota, where he learned the value of hard work at an early age. In 1947, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country with distinction during the Korean War. As a Military Squadron Leader and Radio Communication Dispatcher, Patrick played a vital role in ensuring effective communication during critical operations. His commitment to his fellow servicemen extended beyond his active duty; for over 30 years, he was deeply involved with the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Hillyard, Washington. Serving as Senior Commander, Senior Vice Commander, and Chaplain, Patrick provided unwavering support to veterans and their families.

After completing his military service in 1953, Patrick settled in Spokane, where he met and married Roberta Elaine Austin. Together they built a life filled with love and shared purpose. The couple later relocated to Seattle to pursue careers at Boeing Aircraft Company. Patrick worked as an aerospace machinist for Boeing after contributing to significant projects such as the construction of the Space Needle. His career also included roles as a bus driver in Spokane and at Bethlehem Steel.

Following Roberta's passing, Patrick returned to Spokane and devoted himself to maintaining their home on Lincoln Street. He became a cherished neighbor to Brian Erhgott and Julie Shepard and took pride in keeping his sidewalk clear during snowy winters so local elementary school children could walk safely. A devout member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Spokane, Patrick found solace and community through his faith.

Patrick was known by many as "Pat," a dedicated family man who treasured time spent with loved ones. He is survived by his daughter Patsy Jensen; sons James O'Hara and Shane O'Hara; numerous grandchildren; and great-grandchildren who carry forward his legacy of resilience and kindness.

He is now reunited with those who preceded him in death: his parents Patrick Joseph O'Hara Sr. and Stella Johns; his beloved wife Roberta; son Mike; brothers Francis, Joseph, Anthony, James, Thomas, and Leroy; and sisters Estella, Mary Ellen, and Madonna.

Patrick's life was one of service-to his country as a veteran, to his community through acts of kindness and leadership within the VFW post-and above all else to his family. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

May Patrick Joseph O'Hara rest in eternal peace alongside those he loved most. A viewing will be held from 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Hennessey Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division St., Spokane, WA 99207. A memorial gathering will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at VFW Post 1474, 2902 E. Diamond Ave, Spokane, WA 99217.
