Patti Deacon Corbett, 62, of
Middletown, Delaware, passed away peacefully at home with her family on Sunday, March 31, 2024.
Patti was born to Jean Guessford and Wayne Deacon on June 5, 1961. She grew up in the MOT area with her family and attended Middletown High School. She started working for PNC Bank (formerly Bank of America) at the age of 18 and was there for several years, during this time she met Michael Corbett. They married in 1987 and had two daughters, Samantha in 1991 and Hannah in 1997. After the birth of her daughters, Patti's focus shifted towards her new family. As a stay-at-home mother, she made the most out of her time with her daughters, planning trips, attending camps, and enjoying the beach as much as possible. It was always a fun time. Following her separation from Michael in 2004, she began working for the State of Delaware in Child Support.
Later in life, after her daughters were out of school, she left her job at the State to pursue her dreams of becoming a teacher, and she did just that. Her diligence and perseverance earned her a Master's Degree in Special Education with a Minor in English from Relay Graduate School of Education. She took on various teaching roles throughout her education and training and ended as a Level 4 Special Education Teacher for Fred Fifer III Middle School in
Camden, Delaware, where she was loved by students and faculty alike. She was always extremely passionate about education, and it truly showed through her work and through her drive to help students of all abilities succeed. Her best advice she would often give is, "A lot of things can be taken from you in life; education is one thing that can never be taken once it's gained."
She absolutely loved the beach from a very early age, her family had a house in Dewey Beach where they would spend their summers. This tradition continued with her daughters, spending at least a week or two each summer together on the Delaware beaches, and sometimes traveling to more exotic destinations. Patti visited some amazing places during her life, including the Carolinas, Florida, Texas, Hawaii, California, Washington, Mexico, the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas, St. Thomas, Ireland, France, England, and Wales.
Patti was a tough cookie with a huge heart. She was an extremely hard worker and independent as could be; she would always be there to extend a helping hand to anyone in need. She loved to have fun and joke around; she was a professional prankster. She loved her daughters, worked hard for them, and always encouraged them to be strong, independent, and educated. She was a loyal friend and a dedicated teacher who loved and advocated for her students as if they were her own. She will be dearly missed by so many.
Preceded in death by her mother and father, Jean Sweetman and Wayne Deacon, and her stepfather, Earl Sweetman. She is survived in life by her daughters, Hannah and Samantha Corbett, her sister, Sharon Sweetman, and her brother, Donnie Deacon.
Visiting hours will be at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown on Saturday, April 13th from 10-11am, with a service to follow at 11am. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Patti's life.
