Patty C. Massie, age 87, of Canal Fulton, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at her home, following a period of declining health. She died two days before her 88th birthday.
Patty was born on August 21, 1937, in Beallsville, to the late Herman and Opal (West) Burkhart.
She graduated from Rittman High School in 1955.
Pat Burkhart and Roy Massie were married on Dec. 13, 1958 at the Church of God in Greensburg.
Patty was baptized and attended the Church of Christ in Rittman with her children for many years. In later years she attended Liberty Baptist Church in Massillon with her daughter Stephanie.
She was a secretary and worked for many years at the Packaging Corporation of America in Rittman. She retired from the City of Akron's Water Department in about 2000 after 11 years and continued working there a few years after retiring.
She had a lifelong love for music and enjoyed singing. Pat was the lead singer in three bands that she formed over the years with the names "Rosewood" and "PM Country" (Pat Massie Country) beginning in the early 80's. She was a member and on the board of the Akron Chapter of the Ohio Country Western Music Association, and won several awards from OCWMA.
In earlier years, she loved riding motorcycles and horses. She always enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her trips to the salon.
Patty was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and a friend to many. Patty was loved by all and will be deeply missed.
Surviving are her children: Rick Massie of Canal Fulton, Randy (Julie) Massie of Wadsworth, Stephanie Still of Massillon, and "her buddy" Rodney Massie of Wooster; daughter-in-law, Donna Massie; nine grandchildren: Ryan (Natasha) White, Hannah (Steven) Peppard, Ashley Adkins, Rachel Still, Rebekah (James) Goin, Ruth (Derek) Beaty, Bethany Glockner, Stephen, and Joshua (Camryn) Still; and sixteen great-grandchildren: Jordan, and Janaya Jones, Westley, and James Patrick Goin, Jaxon Nutter, Roxanne, Phoenix, and Maddox Beaty, Caleb, Jacob, and Ezra Glockner, Oscar Thomas-Still, and Charlie Still, Owen, Noah, and Evan Peppard; sisters-in-law: Winnifred Wyant, Rose Kessinger.
Preceding Patty's birth was the death of her father's first wife Dorothy (Dolly) Crall and Patty's half sibling, both dying during childbirth.
She was preceded in death by the father of her children and love of her life, Roy Massie; her infant grandson, Jeremiah Still; two great-grandchildren, Samantha Goin and Joelle Still; and her brother, Eugene (Shirley) Burkhart; brothers-in-law: Charles (Joanne), James (Gail), Robert (Yukie), Dale (Karen), Dwain Massie, and Richard Wyant.
Friends may call on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 4:00-7:00 p.m.as well as one hour prior to the service at Auble-Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W. Sunset Dr., Rittman.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Auble-Gillman Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Rittman Cemetery.
