Paul BaRoss, 57, of Freeport, Maine, passed away peacefully at home on August 3, 2025, after a courageous battle with stage 4 throat cancer. Born on December 13, 1967, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Paul grew up in Cape Elizabeth. He served in the United States Marine Corps, 4th Marine Division, STA- Platoon as a Scout Sniper, during the 1990s - he was very proud of his service. His time in the Marines was a defining chapter in his life-one that reflected his discipline, strength, and loyalty. Paul worked in the Fishing and Hunting Department at L.L.Bean, a role that suited him perfectly. He had a deep respect for the natural world and loved sharing his knowledge with others; work that brought him genuine satisfaction. He was also a skilled skier-confident, smooth, and quiet on the mountain. Winters were spent on the slopes of Pleasant Mountain doing what he loved most. At home, Paul found joy in the company of his Great Danes-Walter, Watson, and Reuben-three gentle giants full of personality. He was devoted to them and rarely went anywhere without a story about their latest antics. Paul was known for his quick wit and sharp sense of humor. He had a gift for storytelling and a way of lifting the mood in any room. Whether reflecting on his own experiences or recounting something funny that had happened to a friend, he told stories that stayed with you. His family still jokes that he was the only person who ever found Bev's couch comfortable-a detail he would proudly defend. Throughout his life, Paul was fortunate to be surrounded by an incredibly supportive circle of friends. Julie and Tim Ontengco and Eric Betters were among those he counted on most. The Doering family, of the Christmas Tree Inn, were like siblings to him-deep, lifelong friendships that meant the world to him. Paul is survived by his sister, Kathy BaRoss, and brother-in-law, Steve Huss; his nieces, Stephanie Gilbert and Jennifer Ogden. He was a dedicated and loving uncle who brought energy, humor, and perspective into their lives. A graveside memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Riverside Cemetery in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. A reception will follow at Saltwater Grille at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Paul by spending time outdoors, sharing a good story, or simply doing something you love-just as he always did.
