Paul D. Canterberry, age 90, of
Carroll, Ohio, passed peacefully at home surrounded by family.
Born in Logan, West Virginia, to George and Edith Canterberry, Paul was the beloved youngest sibling to his sister, Eva Lee, and brother, Buck. After serving as a pilot in the United States Air Force, he pursued a long and successful career in the medical field, where he was affectionately known as "Doc."
Paul married the love of his life, his sweetheart Diane, and together they raised their two children, Cynthia and Scott, to walk faithfully in Christ. He cherished dancing with Diane, watching golf with Cynthia, and sharing in Scott's calling to ministry. Beyond their shared love of the Church, Paul and Scott also bonded over their passion for Star Wars-a connection Paul began by taking his son to the midnight premiere of The Empire Strikes Back on a school night, a treasured memory they carried throughout their lives. He also loved to joke with his daughter-in-law Melody, especially when she baked pies just for him, which he delighted in. Their family bonds were rooted deeply in faith, love, and laughter.
A devoted grandfather and great-grandfather, Paul's joys included his grandchildren Chelsea and Caleb, and Stephanie Walker, as well as his great-grandchildren Rowan, Ridik, Reese, and River. He especially cherished his role in Chelsea's life and the joy of watching her children grow under his roof. He was also endlessly proud of Caleb's musical talent, often saying how blessed he was to hear his grandson's music and how deeply it touched his heart.
Paul will always be remembered as an Ohio State Buckeyes fan, an avid golfer, and above all, a man devoted to Christ and his family. He was the kind of grandfather who would sneak his great-grandkids ice cream, let them watch cartoons past bedtime, and drive them to school just to make them smile. To his family and friends, Paul was not only a hero but a steadfast source of faith, guidance, and unconditional love.
When the Lord called him home, Paul was reunited with his beloved wife Diane, their daughter Cynthia, his parents, siblings, and his grandson. As he entered heaven's gates, his dear grandson Caleb was there to play music for him, filling the reunion with the melodies Paul loved so much. Surrounded by music, dancing, and joy, Paul was welcomed into eternal peace with Christ.
Paul's legacy of love, faith, and laughter lives on in all who were blessed to know him.
