Obituary published on Legacy.com by Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel - Monrovia on Jun. 23, 2023.
Paul E. Day, 79, of Plainfield and formerly of Monrovia, left this world unexpectedly on Monday, June 19, 2023. He was born in Martinsville on June 12, 1944, to the late Alva Burl and Francis Marie (Davis) Day.
The youngest child of seven, Paul grew up in Wilbur within a tight-knit family, and was the only baby blessed to be born in a hospital. Loved and protected by his older siblings, he was also subjected to their sometimes-torturous shenanigans, once being tied to a cow stake while being babysat by sisters who said it was much easier to watch a cow than him (he was known to just disappear from the beginning). Attending Monrovia High School and inherently gifted with musical talent, he taught himself to bring melodies to life on a guitar, played tuba with the school band, and regularly ran off the stage to make a quick change into his basketball uniform to shoot hoops. After graduating with the class of 1962, Paul proudly enlisted in the United States Navy as a Seabee, serving his country for 14 years where he was able to travel the world, visiting foreign countries such as Greece and Italy.
Employed with the Plainfield Correctional Facility as a Correctional Officer for several years, Paul deservedly retired in 2011. He was a member of the Sammy Davis VFW Post 1111, the Plainfield American Legion Marne Post 13, the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Plainfield, as well as the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints in Plainfield.
An artist at heart and with music deeply rooted in his soul, Paul was known to put pen to paper writing beautiful sonnets, as well as playing music with his sisters in the band Morgan Country, along with his own band the Southern Bridges Band. For the last decade he has been a member of the Open Range Band with his best friend and partner in crime, Ed. He enjoyed mushroom hunting with the family, landscaping, playing euchre and board games, was quite the gamer on an X-Box, and submersed himself into movies on a regular basis. A caring and loving man, he served as a strong male role model in his children's lives. Quiet and gentle, he was sincerely thoughtful and kind. His sense of humor was known to light up a room, and when he danced, well, he danced like there was no tomorrow. When you remember him, just close your eyes and listen for the sweet melodies to fill your mind and picture him with that big, beaming smile.
Along with his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his siblings, David "Romain" Day, Phyllis Sanford, Cleo Landrey, and Colleen VanHook, and Dorothy "Dottie" Speck; former wives, Patricia Wilson, Tyann (Goen) Day, and Cheryl (Riley) Day.
He leaves behind his children, Mark Day (Amy) of Cicero, Dea Miller (Mark) of Missouri, Steve Miles (Jerry Nistelback) of New Salem, Misty Jo Strange (Taryn) of Franklin, and Amberly Moberly (Brandon) of Texas; sister, Darlene (Day) Hadley of Camby; best friend, Ed Biehle (Karen) of Wilbur; grandchildren, Amalynn Day-Bostic (Christopher), David Hamble III, Charly Farwell (Daniel), Ethan Day (Leah), Heather Day, and Zayne Strange; great grandchildren, Jannete and Sawyer Farwell.
