Paul Sherman Dionne, of New Providence, formerly of Springfield, New Jersey,

passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, Paul was the son of the late Esther (née Gourdeau)

and Ludger L. Dionne. He was a proud graduate of the Massachusetts Maritime

Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Marine and Electrical Engineering and

went on to serve his country with honor as a U.S. Navy veteran.

Following his military service he worked as a Chief Engineer on several commercial ship liners.

Later Paul built a career as Port Engineer with Sea-Land in Elizabeth, New Jersey,

where he was employed for over 25 years before his retirement.

Early in his career at sea, Paul met the love of his life, Elia (née Betancourt) while

they were both working on the cruise ship SS Argentina, operated by Moore-

McCormack lines. The two married and shared 64 wonderful years together,

raising a family that was the center of Paul's life and joy.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Elia; his loving children, Paul L. Dionne, and

his wife, Vicky, Laura Dionne-McCracken, and Lynn Toomey and her husband,

Mitchell. Paul was the cherished grandfather of Kaitlyn and her husband, Rob,

Bryan and his wife, Barbara, Christopher, Hannah, Elyssa, Sarah, Matthew,

Sophia, Maxwell, Mitchell, and great granddaughter, Elia Rose. He was

predeceased by his eight siblings.

Paul will be remembered for his devotion to family, his quiet strength, and his

enduring love for the sea. His legacy lives on in the family he so dearly loved and

the countless memories they will treasure.

Private interment services will be held with the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Paul may be made to Wounded Warrior

Project.
