Paul, aka "Paul Jr." as he was lovingly called by his family, was born on Thursday, December 28, 1944, to Paul L. Dixon, Sr., and Dixie Earlena Francis Dula Dixon in Lenoir, North Carolina. He was a part of the Freedman High School Class of 1963. In 1961, he took that famous bus ride to Charlotte and on to Fort Jackson to be enlisted in the United States Army. He was deployed to Vietnam and after serving there, he was stationed in various states and countries. He proudly became a member of the 82nd Airborne and after 22 years he retired as a Sergeant First Class (SFC) in 1984.

Paul earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Management where he graduated Magna Cum Laude at Park University. He also earned other various degrees and certifications. After 20 years, he retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital as a contracting officer in 2007.

During his retirement years, Paul enjoyed traveling, gardening, expanding his education by attending online classes at OFTC, reading books, and most importantly becoming an ordained minister graduating from Karis Bible College in 2016. He did prison ministry at Dooly State prison, Dodge State prison, and went on mission trips to South America and Mexico. If anyone knew Paul, he loved his family, a good laugh by picking and cracking jokes, but most importantly, devoting his life to spreading the gospel.

Paul transitioned peacefully on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Fairview Park Hospital surrounded by his wife and daughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Richard E. Dixon, and son, Paul "Tony" Norwood.

Cullens, Jr. of Savannah, Georgia, his brother, William Dixon (Tanya) of Granite Falls, North Carolina, sisters, Patricia Dreher (Leroy) of Columbia, South Carolina, Nancy White (Theotis) of Hickory, North Carolina, and Mabel "Peaches" (Tommy) Hill of Durham, North Carolina. brother-in-law, Montrose L.
