Paul Gilmore Obituary

Gilmore, Paul Joseph
TROY - Paul William Gilmore, 91, entered into eternal life on Friday, October 4, 2024, after a long illness.
Born in Troy, he was son of the late John Gilmore and Leah Reilly Gilmore, and husband for 66 years of Arlene M. (McGuire) Gilmore. He was a resident of Troy, graduate of Sacred Heart School and Troy High School, and a lifelong communicant of Sacred Heart Church.
Paul served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Roanoke as a weather man during the Korean War and retired from the Troy Record newspaper (44 years). He was a member of the Printers Union (representative/negotiator).
Paul enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and boating on Lake George. Paul and Arlene enjoyed traveling as 'snowbirds' to Fla., and their 50th anniversary celebration with family in Ireland.
As a hobby, Paul enjoyed woodworking, restoring furniture and outdoor work. 'Pop' was fond of spending time with his grandchildren, swimming, boating and supporting their respective sports.
Survived by his three loving daughters, with whom he shared a lifelong bond, Laurie A. Gilmore, Troy, Maura L. Ogden, Waterford-Halfmoon and Erin M. Avery of Saratoga Springs (James Finlan); his grandchildren, Jordan (Lauren) and Scott (Samantha) Avery, Peyton Ogden (Nicole Cirelli) and Kiley Nadeau (Justin); and three-great grandchildren; his brother, Peter H. Gilmore (Helen); brother-in-law, John McGuire (Barbara); and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, John Gilmore, sister Annlee (Howard) Murphy; and cousin, Hope Watson (Robert).

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church, Troy, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. John Yanas, Pastor.
Interment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, at 12:30 p.m.

My heartfelt sympathy to Arlene, Laurie, Maura and Erin. For the brief time with Paul and Arlene I felt like I new them forever. The stories he would tell on our walks around the neighborhood. Paul would always speak of his mom, I'm quite sure he is at peace with her now. We only borrow a piece of life, than we join our loved ones once again. May Paul rest in peace.

Our deepest condolences to Arlene, Laurie, Maura, and Erin. Paul was not only a great neighbor but a great friend. We will truly miss the over the fence backyard chats that sometimes lasted hours as we solved the world problems and enjoyed each others humor and along the way deepened our friendship and respect for each other. Our family will never forget the Lake George boat rides, stopping for ice cream on Glen Island and The history lesson on those Lake George Tours. Paul was always a joy to be around and our kids will always remember those days. Rest In Peace my friend.

May my condolences bring you comfort and my prayers ease the pain of your loss. I can't begin to tell you how my much I loved Paul.

I thought of you with love today, but this is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday, and the days before that too. I think of you in silence. I often speak your name. Now all I have are memories and your picture in a frame. Your memory is my keepsake, with which we'll never part. God has you in his keeping. I have you in my
With all my love Nancy
