Paul Joseph Gruenenfelder, 95, of Alachua, Florida, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025. Born on May 18, 1930, in Highland, Illinois, Paul was the beloved son of the late Rose (Arnold) and Elliot Gruenenfelder.
Paul was the devoted husband of the late Ethel Alma (Woolsey) Gruenenfelder, with whom he shared many wonderful years before her passing on November 1, 2014. Together, they built a loving family and a lifetime of cherished memories.
A devoted father, Paul is survived by his six children: Gloria Stoecklin of Ocala, Florida; Patricia Gleason of Gainesville, Florida; Marvin Gruenenfelder of Litchfield, Illinois; Beverly Loy of Gainesville, Florida; Ruth Onkst of Alachua, Florida; and Robin Murphy of Baldwin, Missouri. He was also a proud grandfather of ten, great-grandfather of twenty-one, and great-great-grandfather of five.
Orphaned at a young age, Paul spent his childhood in Alton, Illinois, from the age of five to twelve. Despite the hardships he faced early in life, he grew into a man of deep morals, strength, and dedication. He served honorably in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy and later worked faithfully for Olan Matheson for forty years.
Paul’s life was defined by hard work, integrity, and love for his family. He found joy in holidays, camping trips, and family adventures—moments that created treasured memories for generations to come. He taught those around him to be self-sufficient, resilient, and honest.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of perseverance, love, and quiet strength will live on through his family and all who were blessed to share in his life.
