It is with deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Paul F. Kearns Jr., 64, on January 5, 2025. Paul, known fondly as "Kearnsy," lived a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. He leaves behind a legacy of joy that will never be forgotten.
Paul was born on September 1, 1960 and spent his early years splitting time between Florida and Needham, MA before his family ultimately settled in Marshfield. A proud graduate of Marshfield High School, class of 1978, Paul held a special fondness for his 'townie' roots and always embraced the tight-knit community of Marshfield with great pride. He was a standout on the high school football team, a chapter of his life he continued to fondly reminisce about well into adulthood. Paul went on to graduate from UMass Amherst, where he and his lifelong friend and fraternity brother, Tom Scollins, created countless unforgettable memories that provided endless laughter to Paul. It was at UMass that he met his wife, Patty, and the deep friendships he formed during those years remained some of the most cherished and lasting of his life.
A passionate fisherman and a lifetime member of the Marshfield Yacht Club, Paul loved any excuse to be out on the water, especially with his good friend Scott West. Whether he was fishing with friends, hosting a party at the 'Clubhouse,' or simply spending time with loved ones, Paul was always the life of the gathering. His love of entertaining undoubtedly came from his mother, Marilyn, who could always find a reason to throw a party. His infectious smile, sparkling blue eyes, and tendency to break out the blender to whip up some of his signature mudslides could light up any room. Paul's love also shone through in his cooking, earning him the well-deserved title of 'grill legend.' He had a special way of lifting people's spirits through his meals, whether preparing a dinner for his family or catering an event for a friend. His generosity in the kitchen was a true reflection of the generosity in his heart.
Beyond his culinary talents, Paul had an uncanny ability to stay connected with everyone he cared about. He had a habit of calling on repeat-whether you were ready for a chat or not. He made it his mission to check in constantly and ensure you felt loved and possibly a little bit stalked.
Paul took great pride in his work, having dedicated the past 22 years to his role as Vice President of Sales at PanaPesca USA. He was a trusted and cherished member of the PanaPesca family, earning the affectionate nickname 'Good Guy Paul Kearns.' With his extensive knowledge and his unwavering dedication, he made invaluable contributions to the company and left a lasting mark on the seafood industry.
Paul and Patty's three kids, Alison, Tyler, and Jeff were his world, and he was incredibly proud of all that his children accomplished. He took immense joy in watching them grow, succeed, and pursue their dreams. Paul was a constant source of strength, guidance, and unconditional love. He delighted in being there for his children-from cheering them on at sporting events and coaching youth football and lacrosse, to offering moral support from the parking lot during dance recitals, where he could often be found throwing around a football outside until the second his daughter came on stage.
Paul's trips with his children were some of the highlights of his life. One of the most memorable was a recent trip to Nashville, where Paul showed off his well-known dance moves, reminding everyone that life is too short not to enjoy. Despite his larger-than-life personality, Paul had a hidden soft side. He was a devoted animal lover who could win over even the most nervous of dogs with his gentle nature, and, of course, a secret stash of human food that he was eager to share. He will be greatly missed by the family's two dogs, Toby and Sammie, who both adored him.
In addition to his immediate family, Paul is survived by his brothers-in-law Fred (Carol), Bill, and John (Amy), numerous cousins, and extended family on the Kearns side. He is also survived by countless dear friends, including his 'chosen family': the Scollins and West families. Paul was predeceased by his beloved mother, Marilyn Cody; his stepfather, Larry Cody; and his father, Paul F. Kearns Sr. He now joins them in eternal peace. His warmth, humor, and unwavering kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His spirit will live on in the memories he created, the jokes he told, and the love he so freely gave.
A wake to celebrate Paul's life will be held at the MacDonald Funeral Home in Marshfield on January 10th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will follow at St. Christine's Church in Marshfield at 10:00 AM on January 11th.
