Paul Kelly Sr. Obituary
Visiting hours at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton Tuesday February 27th from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral from the funeral home Wednesday morning February 28th at 9 followed by a mass at St. Elizabeth Church, Milton at 10:00am. Burial will follow mass at Milton Cemetery,
Paul L. Kelly Sr., a cherished lifelong resident of Milton, MA, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2024, after a long illness. Born on December 15, 1940, in Milton, to the late John L. Kelly and Gertrude (McShane), Paul was a beacon of love and kindness in his community.
A graduate of Milton High School in 1959, Paul dedicated over 45 years of service as a Milton firefighter, where he proudly operated Ladder 1. His commitment to serving others was a testament to his character, and his work left a lasting impact on all those he helped throughout his career.
In 1963, Paul married the love of his life, the late Mary D. (Tipping), in Charlestown, MA. Their union was filled with love and mutual respect until Mary's passing in 2016. Together, they raised a beautiful family and created countless cherished memories.
Paul is survived by his loving family, including his children, Laura Kelly and her partner Julia Brant of Milton, Paul L. Kelly Jr. and his wife Susan of Hanover, Christopher Kelly of Westwood, and Erin Richards and her husband Daniel of North Providence, RI. He was a proud and doting Gramps to Paul "Tripp" Kelly III and his wife Veronica of E Bridgewater, Alexandra Kelly of Hanover, Colin Best of Westwood, and Charli Richards of N Providence. He also leaves behind many adoring nieces, nephews, and friends.
His siblings, William Kelly, John L. Kelly and Gerard Kelly, predeceased him, but the bond they shared during their lives remains a cherished memory for all who knew the Kelly family.
Paul was a man who embraced life with open arms. His interests were varied and rooted in the love of his hometown of Milton. He took great pleasure in traveling the world but found equal joy in simple walks around Milton, where he could be seen greeting neighbors with a smile and a helping hand. Paul was the epitome of a great neighbor, often found landscaping or shoveling out a neighbor in need.
A devoted husband, Paul cared for his wife with endless love and patience during her illness. His gentle nature was evident in the way he embraced his role as caregiver, a role he undertook with grace and compassion.
Holidays were a special time for Paul, who loved nothing more than to gather with his family and celebrate with joy and laughter. His presence at these gatherings was a source of warmth and happiness for all.
A deeply spiritual man, Paul spent many days each week attending church mass. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and it brought him comfort and strength, especially during challenging times.
Those who knew Paul were touched by his loving, kind, and gentle spirit. He was a man who put others before himself and went out of his way to ensure that those around him felt appreciated and cared for.
Paul L. Kelly Sr. will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love and service will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we celebrate a life well-lived and a soul that brought light and love into the world.

I am sending my condolences to the Kelly family. I spent many days after school and on the weekends playing with my best friend in middle school Erin Kelly. She was the epitome of what a friend should be today. Mr. Kelly was a signature to the Milton Fire Department. And Mrs. Kelly always greeted me with open arms when I arrived at her home to see Erin. Thank you to each and every Kelly family member and you will always be in my hearts and prayers.

Mother Olga and the Sisters (Daughters of Mary of Nazareth)

February 25, 2024

Dear Family Members of Paul Kelly,

My name is Mother Olga of the Sacred Heart. I am writing this message on behalf of our Community, Daughters of Mary of Nazareth. We live in Quincy and part of our ministries is visiting all the local nursing homes, including Atrium where our dear Paul Kelly resided before his passing to Eternal Life.

Our Sisters visited Atrium every Sunday for Holy Communion and once a month for music ministry and birthday celebration. All the Sisters have always commented on the graciousness of Paul Kelly. He was as one of the Sisters said, "a gentleman through and through." Another Sister said his smile lights up the room.

As you all stated in his obituary, Paul was a man of deep faith and profound reverence to the Holy Eucharist. He never missed his Sunday Communion. I thought you might wish to know that on Ash Wednesday I personally visited Paul and gave him his last Holy Communion and blessed his forehead with Holy Ashes. He had a very beautiful, memorable visit that will always stay with me. I talked with him about his journey and that he was about to go to Heaven, and he asked me if he would see Jesus there and I assured him to have peace of mind and heart, that Jesus will be waiting for him. After our deep spiritual conversation about Heaven, he rested peacefully in bed and that was the last time Paul received his Holy Communion before he was taken again to the hospital and began his hospice journey.

On Ash Wednesday I also invited a priest to come and visit Paul and he gave him the Sacrament of the Last Rites and the Apostolic Pardon. On that day, Paul received 4 Sacraments, Anointing of the Sick, Reconciliation, Holy Communion, and the Last Rites. On this side of Heaven, Paul always wanted to dress so well and physically be ready whenever the Sisters went every Sunday to give him Communion. At the end of his life, Paul´s soul was also ready to receive the Risen Jesus on the other side of Heaven.

I pray and hope these sentiments of admiration towards your dear father, grandfather, will give you comfort and peace knowing that Sacramentally he was so well prepared for his journey to his Eternal Home where he met your dear mother of whom he often spoke to the Sisters.

Please be assured of our Community´s prayers for all of you as you grieve the loss of such a great man whom we were very blessed to know. He will be greatly missed.

God bless, Mother Olga and the Sisters
