Paul William Middeke, of Saint Charles, MO, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026, at the age of 79. Beloved husband of Donna Middeke (deceased) and Gwen Middeke; cherished son of the late Emil and Bertha Middeke; devoted father of Christine (Dominic Prebianca) McClellan, Jerry McClellan Jr. (deceased), Jason (Cynthia) Middeke, Mary McClellan, Jessica Middeke, and Jeffrey (Rachel Holmes) Middeke; loving grandfather of Jamie Gibbs, Shelly (Jonathan Hummel) Thiemann, Caleb (Madison) Gibbs, Charlet Middeke, Simon McClellan, and Adrian Middeke.
Paul was a lifetime Saint Charles resident. He called it God’s country. Paul graduated from Truman State University with a degree in accounting. He served in the army as a combat medic stationed in Japan working to medivac soldiers during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he joined the accounting firm of Arthur Young (Ernst & Young). He was proud of the way he served his clients.
Taking early retirement when his wife, Donna, was fighting breast cancer, he was anything but retired. He was appointed treasurer of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and then president of Concordia Plans. He served 12 years on the Board of Directors of Thrivent Financial. He also voluntarily served on numerous Boards including Youth In Need, Lutheran Family and Children Services, and Lutheran Hour Ministries reflecting his deep commitment to service and community. He was a proud supporter of The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, an avid golfer, and a lifelong sports enthusiast. Paul especially enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. He loved playing cards and games of all kinds with those he loved. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Memorials may be made in Paul's name to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
