A strong and loving man left this earth on September 20th, 2024.
Paul Richard Ness, husband of the late Patricia T. Ness, passed away at Country Meadows in York. Paul was born on July 6th, 1929, to Myles and Edna Stough Ness.
He had four brothers and a sister and grew up on a farm during the trying years of the Depression and WWII. He attended Smyser's School in West York while also working on the farm raising blue ribbon beef. At the age of 19, he rode in on a motorcycle and met the love of his life, Patty. They married and while raising three children, Paul's first job was delivering bread door to door, for J.S. Hershey. He then moved to selling lighting for Jewel, Duro-Test H&H Lighting, and then retired at 90 years old from HXL Lighting. He loved the driving and meeting people part of sales. Paul and Pat enjoyed camping all their lives and traveled all over America and Canada. He also was a co-founder of York 9 Point Hunting Club, enjoyed fishing and was a long-time member of a bowling league of left-handed bowlers. He was a great cook, his specialty being soups. Paul also took great pride in tending his lawn and gardens. He also enjoyed collecting crocks, duck decoys and old toys. Best of all, he was a great dad and even better grandpa, absolutely adoring the little ones, always ready to help with support and advice.
He is survived by his children, Richard Ness, Sheilah Ream (Luke), and Dirk Ness (Virginia), 8 grandchildren: Michelle Pursel (Brian), Mark Ness (Krystyn), Kristofer Ness, Luke N. Ream (Sherryl), Levi Ream (Evva) Max Ream (Jennifer) Dirk A Ness (Caitlyn), Emily Silverman (Robbie) as well as 18 great-grandchildren, his brother Carl Ness, his sister Janet Jacoby, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Patricia, his grandson Samuel M. Ream, his brothers: Clair, Dale and Earl Ness and parents Myles and Edna Ness.
A celebration of his life will be held privately by his family.
Memorial contributions for Paul may be made to Country Meadows South 2760 Pine Grove Road, York, Pa 17 403 for the Co-Worker Foundation which benefits the aids, who were absolute angels to Paul during his time spent there.
