I am sorry to just learn of Paul's passing. As a tight end I lined up next to him for three years on many occasions. We were excellent at double teaming those defensive tackles mainly due to the initial crushing blow he inflicted on those poor souls. They usually didn't see me coming down to seal them off but the heavy lifting was already done. We created some serious real estate for the backs to run through. His toughness was second to none ... he took a shot to the head in one game and never left even though he asked me how we had scored our last two touchdowns. He always cracked us up with his fishing pole poses on photo day down by Orr Lake. I also know for a fact we would have lost the 1977 championship game in Los Angeles if it had not been for his motivation rant up and down our sideline. It was the end of the third quarter and we were losing 9-0. Our opponent started pointing to the scoreboard and grunting like cavemen ... it was a mockery too much for Otis to ignore. He ripped off his helmet and was running up and down the sidelines ....jumping up and down like a crazed lunatic ... yelling at us, "Do you see what those (I can't repeat the word he used here) are doing ... we are not going to take this (I can't repeat the word here) from any body ... Let's gooooooo! We had so many injuries ... we were down to a third string QB ... 4th string running back and a lot of other guys with cramps who just couldn't go ... but the entire demeanor of our team changed ... we scored 17 unanswered points to bring back the banner to New WIlmington. It would not have happened if Paul had not stepped up. I lost touch with him after we graduated but we reconnected in Clarion about 20 years later ... I had the pleasure and privilege of meeting his son and jokingly told him if he behaved well I might reveal some stories about his Dad. I have no doubt Paul was an inspiration in any endeavor he chose. If he was as loved and respected like he was while a TItan ... his impact was felt far and wide. Rest in Peace brother ... I had the honor of first meeting Paul at Kelly's wedding. His joy for the occasion had him engaging those around him to just laugh and have a good time. He decided to gave us his best 3 point stance to get those around more engaged and something to talk about. I then got a second chance to see Paul when visiting his son at their home. Not knowing me very well, he offered me a place to stay and anything I would need for the visit. Because I was friends with the family, he said I was considered as family. We spent half the day in the garage talking pottery, animal spirits, and just getting to know eachother. As we did not have much time together, his kindness, consideration, and laughs shared was greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten.
