Paul H. Peterman, age 83 of West Jefferson passed away Sunday, January 25, 2026, at the OSU Hospital after a long battle with cancer. He was born to the late Raymond & Lilah Peterman on January 15, 1943. Paul worked for Madison County Engineers for over 43 years, where he made numerous friends all over the county. He and his crews saved many people’s lives who were stranded in the blizzard of 1978. His passions were traveling, fishing, farming and he was a master gardener along with his companion Rose, sharing his bounty with many. Paul never knew a stranger and was always willing to help when and wherever needed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a son Richard, sister Kathryn Miller, brothers and sisters in-law Keith & Virginia, Ralph & Maryann, Gayle & Ellie, his brothers Charles, David, and Roger, his brother in-law Ray Elfrink, a grandson Zachary, his many nephews and nieces and his life-long Blair Rd. buddies whom were like brothers to him.
Paul is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Libby and his wonderful children Doug (Cindy) Peterman and Kim (Tom) Collins; his grandchildren Amanda (Ryan) Ross, Josh Hillard, Abby (Mike) Cassell, Taylor (Jacob) Michel, Ryan (Maddie) Peterman, Jacob Collins; his great grandchildren Tyson, Jordynne, Lukas & Wrenlee; his sister Carolyn Elfrink, brother Lowell, sister in-law Elsie and numerous nieces and nephews.
Paul’s wishes were to have no calling hours and a graveside service for Family and Friends, to be held on a future date in the spring.
