Paul Emile Phenix Jr. was born in New Haven, CT on 8 June 1941 to the late Paul Emile Phenix Sr. and Alice Thomas Phenix. He died on 28 September 2023, age 82, at Kindred Hospital in Melbourne, FL following a five month period of ill health.
He is survived by his wife of 36 yrs, Kathryn Lounsbury Phenix of Melbourne, FL, a son Matthew A. Phenix of NYC, a sister Yvette Phenix Chambers of Branford, CT, a sister Mary Phoenix of Clarksdale, AZ, a brother John Phenix of Old Tappan, N.J., two granddaughters, Ashley Phenix Hughes of Melbourne, FL and Audrey A. Phenix of NYC and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his first wife Carol Lanna Phenix, his eldest son Paul Emile Phenix III, two sisters, Madelaine Phenix Gorski and Jeanette Phenix Mercugliano.
Paul was a Navy veteran having served as quartermaster on the USS Lake Champlain. He also served in the Army reserves, the Navy reserves and the US Coast Guard reserves. He is a graduate of Norwich Community College in Norwich, CT with a degree in criminal justice. He is a graduate of The Connecticut State Police Academy in 1966 and served 16 years-leaving as 1st Sgt of Troop "F" in Westbrook, Ct.
He was an award winning sales manager of several security alarm companies and at Western Southern Life Insurance. He was bank manager at BB&T bank in Melbourne Beach, FL when he finally retired in 2007.
Paul and his wife moved frequently after marrying, establishing homes in Pittsburgh, PA, High Point, N.C. Rocky Mount, NC, Newton, NC, and Clearwater, FL before settling in Melbourne, FL in 2001. They were members of St. Joseph RC Church Community in Palm Bay, FL where Paul was a Eucharistic Minister and a Minister to the Sick. He also volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #7408 in Palm Bay. He was a valued volunteer for the Melbourne Community Police Program. He was certified as a V-Cop in September 2008.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Church of St. John Bosco Parish in Branford, where he and Kathy were married, on Tuesday May 7 at 10:00. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery in Branford.
