Paul David Rowan passed away surrounded by his loving family on July 17, 2025, at the age of 48 in Tallahassee, Florida. He was born on September 21, 1976, in Tallahassee, Florida.
Paul is survived by his wife, Amanda (Amy) Rowan; his precious children, Blayne David Rowan, Kaleb and Gracie Shiver; his adoring parents, Hugh and Brenda Rowan; his loving sister, Holley Rowan Sweet, husband Roland; niece, Caroline Sweet Shores, husband Cody; nephew, Carson Sweet; niece, Kennedy Sweet; great-niece, River Shores; paternal grandmother, Gladys Rowan. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Venice Rowan, and maternal grandparents, Lester and Dora Gatlin.
Paul was a lifelong resident of
Sycamore, Florida. He graduated from Sneads High School in 1995. After graduating, Paul became known as one of the area's most skilled diesel mechanics. He earned a reputation for being the go-to expert in the field. Whether it was diagnosing complex issues or performing detailed repairs, Paul took pride in every job.
Paul's passion for drag racing began at a young age, even before his parents knew it. As a teenager, he would race his mother's old '87 Camry on the back roads, always chasing the thrill of speed. This love for racing grew into a lifelong dedication, and Paul, also known as "Cuz", spent countless hours working on junior dragsters, mentoring young drivers, and being a positive force in the racing community. His enthusiasm for the sport was matched only by his generosity, always offering his time and expertise to those around him. Whether helping a fellow racer fine-tune their engine or sharing a laugh in the pits, Paul's spirit and camaraderie will be remembered by all who knew him.
Paul's love for the racing community went beyond the racetrack; he considered his fellow racers family. One of his closest friends was Jeremy Neel, lovingly known as "Democrat." The two shared countless adventures, particularly when it came to hunting down cars and parts. But there was always one rule: "Road Dawg" had to be the driver, and Jeremy the passenger. If Paul wasn't behind the wheel, he was quick to let Jeremy (or anyone else) know exactly how they should be driving. Paul's presence, his guidance, and his friendship with Jeremy and many others in the racing community will forever be cherished.
When the jobs and races were done, Paul was often found laughing, cutting up, and sharing that infectious smile of his. His sense of humor was as quick-witted as they come, and he always knew how to brighten someone's day, no matter what. His smile-one of the most genuine and heartfelt you could ever see-was a reflection of his personality: warm, joyful, and full of life. Paul's ability to lift the spirits of those around him, whether through a clever joke or just by being there, left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. That smile will remain one of his greatest legacies, a symbol of the joy and light he brought into the lives of those lucky enough to call him a friend.
Paul's legacy is one of laughter, love, and the joy of racing. He will be remembered not only for his skills as a mechanic and his unwavering dedication to the sport but for the kindness, humor, and generosity he shared with everyone around him. While we mourn his loss, we find comfort in knowing that Paul's spirit will live on in the countless memories he created, the lessons he taught, and the many lives he touched. His laughter and his smile will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him. Right now, he is smiling, holding up the number 1 symbol, and saying, "Come on!" Paul's impact on this world will never fade.
