Paul N Smith, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025, surrounded by family. He was 81 years old.
Born on November 15, 1943 in Durham, North Carolina, Paul lived a life full of love, laughter, and generosity. He was known for his kindness, humor, work ethic, and compassion. A true legend by those that knew him and he touched the lives of everyone who had an interaction with him.
Paul graduated from Sheepshead Bay High School on June 19, 1961 where he part of The Chorus Club and Track Team. He joined the Marines that same year. After a few years serving in both the Marines and Army he decided he wanted a change. He worked at Chase Bank in Manhattan where he met his wife (Lethia). They got married March 8, 1969. He started working at Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority on October 6, 1972. He was admired and also won a Safety Recognition Award in 1999 for creating new safeguards at the blind spots, curves, and entrances at the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel. He retired in 2002 after 30 years from BBT. Outside of work, he enjoyed cooking, dancing, and being a father. His greatest joy came from being with his loved ones, especially his daughter Jennifer and his grandson Victor.
He is survived by wife, brother (Emmanuel Smith), his children, son in law, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, godchildren. Paul will be remembered for his unwavering kindness, sense of humor, love of family, and his genuine charm and he will live forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
