Paul Thomas Stegall was born on January 3, 1958, at Duke Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, and passed away unexpectedly on September 24, 2025, at the age of 67.
Paul was the son of the late Beverly Mae Holleman and Luther Lloyd Stegall. He grew up with a big heart, a great sense of humor, and a gift for making people laugh. He never minded being the punchline of his own stories if it meant bringing a smile to someone's face. Paul was down-to-earth, light-hearted, and always willing to help anyone with almost anything.
Paul met his wife, Ann, while they were both working at SnackPacker, and they married on December 16, 1986. Over nearly four decades together, they shared a life of love, laughter, and memories. Paul worked for Coca-Cola, Novelty, and eventually Schwan's, retiring earlier this year so he could spend more time at home with Ann in Wake Forest, NC.
In addition to his family and friends, Paul was passionate about NC State, camping, fishing, NASCAR, old movies, and music. He loved building fires in the fireplace - even when it wasn't cold outside. Paul also cherished the time he and Ann spent together at the beach, a place that brought them both peace and happiness. His love of music led him to write, record, and perform live at local venues in and around Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Paul leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Ann Stegall; his sister, Ann Lynn (Freddy Lynn); his brother, David Stegall (Judy Stegall); and his two step-sons, Randy Clark (Donna Clark) and Tony Clark (Demetrice Clark). He was also a grandfather to 11 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Beverly and Luther, his grandmother, Janie Holleman, and his stepfather, Talmadge Branch.
A service to celebrate Paul's life will be held Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church, 3328 Forestville Road in Raleigh. Friends and family are invited to gather for a visitation from 1:00–2:00 PM, with the service and graveside to follow.
As a lifelong NC State sports fan, Paul would be honored by contributions to the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research in his memory: https://donate.v.org.
Paul's sudden passing leaves a deep void, but his love, warmth, humor, and generous spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
