Saint Albans – Paul Armand Trahan, a lifelong area resident, passed away on Monday, July 28th, 2025, at the Northwestern Medical Center with his loving family at his side.
Born on October 15th, 1948, the son of the late Paul and Therese (Coderre) Trahan from Swanton, Vermont. Paul was 76 years old.
On March 2nd, 1968, at the Church of Nativity in Swanton, Paul married Anne Thomas, of
St. Albans, Vermont; who survives him.
Paul was a 1966 graduate of Swanton High School. Paul played soccer, was captain of the basketball team and he spent his weekends and vacations at Jay Peak instructing skiers in the Walter Folger program. Paul attended the University of Vermont and completed the General Electric Company's Apprentice Program in 1971. He started his career in the Drafting Department and rose to Senior Design Specialist through the company's evolutions of Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics. During his 40 years with the company, Paul's work included developing and demonstrating with the GAU-19 armament system, sending him all over the world to train and support the system. He made friends wherever he went and even met the Prince of Jordan. After retirement from General Dynamics, Paul still wasn't done. He was offered a job with Dillon Aero to help develop their mini-gun test facility in Scottsdale, Arizona and he and Anne spent four wonderful years out in the sunny desert.
When Paul wasn't traveling the world, you could find him in his garage tending to his Italian sports cars. Paul's first sports car was a fixer-upper Alpha Romeo that he and his brother Marc tirelessly worked on to bring back to life. He continued buying project cars, worked on them and then traded up for the next one. It was his true passion.
Paul's other passions included racquetball, fishing and family gatherings. Paul took Thanksgiving gatherings with his mother, 4 siblings and extended family very seriously. So seriously, that on one occasion he hand carried a 36-pound turkey on a flight to Virginia for Thanksgiving dinner because "we need to have a native Vermont bird". He was one of kind. The kind of uncle that all the kids followed and fought for his attention. The kind of smile and laugh that would light up a room and the kind of youthful energy that was contagious. Paul loved fiercely and will be missed dearly by those he loved.
Paul's survivors include his wife of 57 years, Anne, of St. Albans; their daughter, Amy Ferguson, her husband Brett and their sons, Jack and Wil, of Alpharetta, Georgia.
Paul is also survived by his siblings: Marie George and her husband, Robert, of Newport, Vermont; Michelle Trahan Taylor and her husband, James, of Arlington, Virginia; Marc Trahan and his wife, Jane, of Rochester, Michigan; and Robert Trahan and his wife, Regina, of Richmond, Virginia.
