Peter John Bessette

Peter John Bessette, 83, of Georgia, VT passed away peacefully at his home on September 3, 2025, with his wife and daughter at his side.
Peter was born on October 14th, 1941, in St. Albans VT to parents Arnold and Eva Bessette. Peter attended school at Holy Angels in St. Albans and went on to BFA St. Albans where he graduated with the class of 1961. Following school, Peter joined Vermont's Army National Guard for a number of years. After his time in the National Guard, Peter went on to explore a variety of interesting careers, including Managing Martins Supermarket, Selling Insurance, and 20 years working in the office at Central VT Railroad, from which he retired in 2000.
In addition to a life full of interesting work, Peter also had a range of pastimes and hobbies that he enjoyed. Peter spent many springtimes in Vermont helping his father with a large sugaring operation. He was an avid hunter until his later years. He spent over 30 years working to compile as much information as possible regarding his family history. Peter also had a talent for woodworking. Some of his work can be found proudly on display in his home, and the homes of his family. A bit later in life, when grandchildren came into the picture, Peter was always eager to spend time with them as well.
Peter was a well-known member of the community, and he always had a story to tell. You could count on him to bring an interesting, comical, or epic tale from his fascinating and varied experience with work, and people.
Peter is survived by his wife Diane of Georgia, VT, his daughter Heather (Michael) Young of Fairfax, VT, his grandchildren Zachary and Porter Young of Fairfax, VT, his sister, Joan Trombley of Georgia, VT, and his sister, Susan Bressette (William "Bill") of St. Albans, VT, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Peter is preceded in death by his parents Arnold and Eva Bessette, as well as his son Shawn Bessette.
A wake will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, from 4-7pm at Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans, VT.
A funeral will take place on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 11:00am at Church of the Rock, 1091 Fairfax Road, St. Albans, VT.
Following the funeral service, Peter will be laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Calvary St., St. Albans, VT.
