Paul Zar Obituary
Paul is survived by his wife, Lois, sons Paul, Peter (Peyton), and Matt, as well as his daughter, Jacqueline Varona (Hector), and his grandchildren, Isabella and Jake. He is also survived by his sister, Diana Simone (Andres), and nephew, Bill. Paul was a beloved brother-in-law to Lois' family. Paul cherished his children and grandchildren, and his love for them defined his life.
Paul started his career as an educator before transitioning to the travel industry. Paul enjoyed a long career as an executive specializing in Caribbean marketing at American Airlines, the Bermuda Department of Tourism, Travel Impressions, and ALG.
Paul was a long-distance runner. When he discovered running, it transformed his life, and for over 40 years he ran most mornings at dawn. During this time, he completed 20+ marathons including NYC, Boston, and Napa Valley. He also volunteered with the New York Road Runners' Achilles Club, running with blind runners in New York Marathons.
In recent years he transitioned from distance running to long walks. During his walks, he enjoyed chatting with his friends and sharing treats with his canine friends in the park and along the boardwalk near his home. Paul took great pleasure in his morning coffee, long walks, daily calls and texts with family and friends, reading, writing, and watching the Yankees.
Paul was selfless in a way that is genuinely uncommon. He possessed a rare kindness and gentle soul, always putting others first, and always seeking to learn about the people he met. He was wise, intelligent, and witty. He loved jokes and making others laugh. He touched many lives, and his family feels so fortunate to call him their own. Paul's love and devotion will be missed every day.
Donations can be made in Paul's name to the Don Bosco Community Center of Port Chester NY, where he volunteered teaching ESL.

I´m grateful and feel very fortunate to have met Paul allbeit briefly. It´s not often that you get to know someone so authentic, warm and kind. Paul would always make you feel welcome, he was always kind and always looking to make you smile. No doubt he touched everyone in his path. He leaves a legacy of kindness behind.

I am deeply grateful to have known Paul. A gentle and kind soul. He truly cared for others and made a difference in the lives he touched. His love for Lois and his family was palpable. I admired him for his resilience, and so much more. I won´t forget the twinkle in his eyes, and his capacity to offer loving kindness to those he encountered. Rest in peace, dear Paul.

Paul Zar , the epitome of class. He worked with me as a Flight Service Director at JFK flying mostly SJU. He loved taking care of his customers and was highly respected the crews he flew with. We remained friends long after his FSD days. A true gentleman always with a smile and saw the good in everyone he met.
