Paula Nicolina (Minniti) Polimeni, 75, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family, after a long courageous battle with breast cancer. Born on March 15, 1949, in Locri, Reggio Calabria, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Vincenzo & Michelina (DeDomenico) Minniti.
Paula is survived by her devoted and compassionate husband of 55 years, Giuseppe Polimeni of Springfield, children, Lucrezia Illingsworth & husband Todd, Michelle Polimeni, and Nicola Polimeni & wife Rachel all of East Longmeadow. She was the cherished Nonna to grandchildren, Gabriella, Emma, Annabella, Julia, Francesca, & Giuseppe all of which were the joys of her life. Paula is also survived by her brother, Salvatore Minniti & wife Rita, sisters-in-law, Franca & Maria Polimeni, and many nephews, nieces, Godchildren, cousins, and many dear friends here & in Italy. She was predeceased by siblings, Lillian and Nino.
At the age of 9, Paula emigrated from Italy to the United States with her parents and brother. She graduated from High School of Commerce and worked briefly for the City of Springfield before dedicating her life to being a homemaker and loving Nonna to her grandchildren. Paula had a passion for cooking and enjoyed preparing meals for her family & friends. She loved traveling to Italy, especially to spend time with her mother and other relatives. An active member and supporter of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, she coordinated numerous church events and fundraisers. She loved to window-shop, socialize, scroll on her iPad, play her 'lucky' slots at the casino, and was always willing to help anyone in need. Paula was a strong, brave, humble, selfless, caring, faithful woman with a witty sense of humor.
Paulas family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Sister Caritas Cancer Center, Mercy Medical Center, and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Dr. Parker, Dr. Johnson, and especially Dr. Antonio Giordano for his unwavering love and support.
Paulas wake will be on Thursday, February 27, from 3-6 p.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 123 William Street in Springfield. Her funeral will begin Friday with a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at Mt. Carmel Church, proceeding to her entombment at St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum. Anyone joining the procession to the mausoleum is asked to please enter the Church parking lot from Margaret Street. The Sons & Daughters of Italy at 13 Winthrop Street has graciously offered use of their parking lot, and all are welcome to park and carpool from Tazzini Funeral Home as well.
Because all services will be at Mt. Carmel Church, it is strongly urged that in lieu of flowers please consider a memorial contribution to Mt. Carmel Church, www.ShrinersSpringfield.org, or,www.StJude.org.
