Davis Mortuary Service - GretnaPaulina Okwuwodu Okpechi, nee Acholonu was born on April 18, 1943, in Owerri, Nigeria, to the late Chief Wilfred and Esther Acholonu. Paulina was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, friend, and a pillar of faith. She was surrounded by loved ones when she peacefully transitioned to glory on November 11, 2025, at 82 years old. Paulina’s unwavering faith in God guided her life and her approach to every decision she made, leaving a legacy of commitment to prayer.
In 1966, Paulina and Simeon met at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They became best friends and married in 1967. Paulina graduated from Southern University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. While in Michigan, she later obtained a separate certification for hotel management and hospitality services. She worked in several organizations as a manager of operations while being a dedicated home maker and eventually devoted all her time to raising her family. In 1999, Paulina became an ordained minister at Redeemed Christian Church of God in Lagos, Nigeria.
As a devoted mother of four and proud grandmother of five, she instilled in her family the values that guided her life and she always exhibited a steadfast relationship with God. Her faith was never hidden—she shared it openly and joyfully with everyone she met. A constant communicator, she reached out to her loved ones often, ensuring they always knew how deeply she cared.
She never forgot a birthday and delighted in singing “Happy Birthday to You.” On her own special day, she expected the same in return, gently reminding you if you hadn’t sung to her yet. Her home radiated love, adorned with cherished photographs of family and friends. Every card bearing a family photo was a treasure she kept close to her heart.
Her prayers were selfless, offered more for others than for herself, and her love was fierce, unconditional, and unforgettable. To be loved by her was to feel truly blessed. Among her greatest joys was gathering with her entire family, and she eagerly anticipated reunions where her heart could be fullest.
Paulina is survived by her loving husband of 58 and a half years, Professor Simeon Ogbulafor Okpechi, their beloved children, Ogechi Okpechi, Chiaka Ejike and her husband, Ugo Ejike; Chinwe Okpechi Fossett and her husband, Craig Fossett; David Okpechi; and their precious grandchildren, Hannah Nwaoma Fossett, Gozie Ejike, Joshua Kelechi Fossett, Keneh Ejike, and Joel Ikechi Fossett. She is also survived by eight brothers, three sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
A celebration of Paulina’s life and faith will be held on December 6, 2025, at 4 pm at Southern University Gymnasium, 6400 Press Dr., New Orleans, Louisiana, 70126.
