Pauline Louise Essick, born January 27, 1927, in Reading Pennsylvania, departed peacefully on October 18, 2025. She is predeceased by her parents, the late Walter Behm and Pearl Holzman Behm, her husband Thomas (Tom) R. Essick and most recently, her son-in-law, Alan Dobrowolski. Left behind to carry out her legacy are her two daughters Linda Cockey of Salisbury, MD and Rosalind Dobrowolski of East Hampton, CT; four granddaughters, Julie Nosal of CT, Erin Nosal of CT, Sarah Arseneault and her husband Peter Arseneault of CT, and Rose Cockey of CO; and three great grandchildren, Maisey Zuder, Brady and Brooke Arseneault of CT. Her sisters include the late Ruth Peterson and Susan Schaeffer.
Louise grew up in St. Lawrence, Pennsylvania and later moved to Pottstown, Pennsylvania. After finishing high school, she worked a few years before her marriage in 1949. She was a homemaker and an expert seamstress along with her long interest in art. Her artistic passion led her to take numerous classes in both Pennsylvania and Maryland, where she moved following her husband's death in 1989. A highlight for Louise was attending Salisbury University and studying under the guidance of esteemed art professor, Jinchul Kim. She was a member of the local artist guild and won many awards for best in show with her paintings.
An avid golfer well into her seventies, Louise also took yoga and Tai Chi classes and enjoyed life. Her greatest joy other than pursuing her art was spending time with her family, particularly her four granddaughters. She shared her love of art with them in her home studio where they had fun dabbling in the paint. Well into her later years, she spent time with her dear friend JoAnn Wilber who she spent many hours with while they painted together, traveled to take art classes and went out to dinner. She especially enjoyed the company of Jim Hatley, who was a great admirer of her artwork.
The family wishes to thank the excellent caregivers who took care of Louise in her home. We also would like to thank the many friends who visited her during her confinement. A special thank you to all the Coastal Hospice staff who provided dedicated care and oversight.
A private graveside service will be held. Memorial contributions can be made to either the Joseph House, Little Sisters of Jesus and Mary, P. O. 1755, Salisbury, MD 21802 or Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.
