Noble "Nub" Robert Essick, 87, of West Frankfort, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Integrity Healthcare of Marion.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Bill Reed officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Noble was born on December 14, 1937, in DuQuoin, to John Monroe and Lillian (Manion) Essick. He married Janice Elaine Reed on September 22, 1956, in Orient. She preceded him in death on July 3, 2015.

He is survived by his daughter, Amy (Dan) Reed of Cambria; son-in-law, Larry "Worm" Ice of West Frankfort; grandchildren, Amanda Essick, Mary Essick, Cassandra (Eric) Gunter, Stephen Slimak, Dallas McGrady, Bailey Misener, and Alexis Misener; great-grandchildren, Gage, Addison, Henry, Anna Kate, Karter, Skyler, and Tatum; brother, John "Jack" Essick; plus several nieces and nephews.

Noble was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janice; son, Bradley Essick; daughter, Laura Ice; sisters, Carol Ann Striegel and Emma Lou Shelton; and grandson, Bradley Essick.

He worked as a coal miner at Freeman 4, Inland Steel, and Old Ben #25 and #27.

Noble enjoyed spending time outdoors-fishing, riding his motorcycle, and tinkering with odds and ends in his spare time.

Noble was just the best - from the time I was a little girl about 6 years old through the last time I visited with him in November 2024. My sincere condolences to you, Amy, and all your family.
