Pauline Oliver Hixon, 87, formerly of Leawood, Kansas, died on June 2, 2025, in Menasha, Wisconsin.

Born in Bangor, Maine, to William W. and Mildred (French) Oliver, and raised in Bucksport, Polly earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Simmons College and began her career as a Registered Nurse in Boston.

She married George G. Hixon of Worcester, Massachusetts, on October 22, 1960, in Bucksport. Their life together took them to Worcester and Pembroke, Mass., New York, Harvard, Mass., Shawnee, Kansas, and Naperville, Illinois, before settling in Leawood, Kansas. Polly supported George’s career with Hallmark Cards while they raised their two children, Bill and Holly.

Polly brought warmth, energy, and love to their home lives. She cooked, knitted hats, mittens, and the family’s cherished Christmas stockings, and sewed clothes for the family and for Holly’s dolls. Special memories include her singing carols while she cooked in the Christmas season.

Polly and George loved golf, bridge, and travel—especially cruises. They were enthusiastic sports fans, cheering on the Red Sox, Royals, Patriots, Chiefs, and Jayhawks. They were also generous hosts who always made friends and family feel welcome in their home. They developed many special life-long friendships with neighbors and Hallmark families, and through golf.

Polly, together with Holly, supported George through his final years until his death in 2013. In 2018, she moved to Appleton, Wisconsin, to be closer to Bill and his family, enjoying many family milestones and her grandchildren’s activities. She also treasured trips to New England to visit Holly in Boston and to see family in Maine, as well as a special 80th birthday trip to London with Holly, Bill and his family.

Polly was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of nearly 53 years, George; her sister, Genevieve Mercer; and her brother-in-law, Everett Mercer. She is survived by her son, William Hixon (Andrea), her daughter, Holly Hixon (Mike Byrne), and her grandchildren, David and Julia Hixon.

Polly often shared happy memories of collecting for The Jimmy Fund at Red Sox games during her college years. For those who wish, contributions may be made in her memory at www.jimmyfund.org
