Pauline Mitchell Hurdle

AULANDER, NC - Pauline Mitchell Hall Shores Hurdle, a beloved matriarch and devoted woman of faith, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025, at the age of 92, at ECU Health Bertie Hospital in Windsor, North Carolina.

Born on February 1, 1933, in Mitchell Township, North Carolina, Pauline was the cherished daughter of Lassie Hall and Pearl Jones Hall. From a young age, she dedicated herself to both her family, and her community.

A true lady of God, Pauline lived a life devoted to her faith, which was her guiding light and inspiration. Her lifelong commitment to Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church in Aulander, NC, was evident through her involvement in teaching Primary Sunday School and Bible School classes, always enjoying the crafts.

Pauline's professional life was spent in nurturing environments, where she worked as a Cafeteria Worker within the public school system. This role allowed her to be surrounded by children, which brought her great joy and fulfillment.

Her love of gardening was not just a hobby but a necessity for her growing family. Alongside her late husband, Elwood Shores, she raised five children, each one a testament to the love and care she poured into her home. Her garden was a place of beauty and nourishment, much like Pauline herself, who cultivated kindness and love in all those around her.

Her family was her greatest treasure. Pauline Mitchell Hall Shores Hurdle leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and family. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her. Pauline is preceded in death by her 1st husband, Elwood Shores; her 2nd husband, Henry Clay Hurdle; her parents, Lassie and Pearl Hall; her brothers, Lassie "LC" Hall and Melvin Hall; her daughter, Brenda Evans; a son, Gary Shores, a granddaughter, April Harrell; and a grandson, Judson Shores.

She leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving family; her daughters, Joyce Lassiter and husband Ricky of Aulander; Lois Johnson and husband Everette of Kenly, NC; her son, Bobby Shores and his wife Rita of Robertsdale, AL, stepdaughter, Wanda Rueb of Greenville, and Gary Hurdle and wife Rhonda of Aulander. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Karen, Kelly, Nicole, Corey, Brad(Heather), Jody(Rebecca), Chris(Karen), Elizabeth(Creed), Matthew, and Daniel; 19 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, each carrying forward her spirit and love.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church, Aulander, NC. A celebration of her life will follow at 11:00 AM, led by Rev. Taylor Latham. Pauline will be laid to rest at Aulander Cemetery, Aulander, NC.
