Peggy Venable Belk, age 90, died peacefully at her home on October 21, 2025.
A graveside service will be held at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park on October 23, 2025, at 3:00 p.m.
Born on July 16, 1935, in Huntsville, Alabama, Peggy was the daughter of the late William Andrew Venable and Daphne Kelly Venable. She graduated from the University of Alabama. While at the University, two significant events occurred which played a significant role in her life. First, she pledged the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, where she formed lifelong friends. She continued to be a loyal and involved alumna of the sorority long after she graduated. Second, it was during her time at the University where she met Thomas Darrel Belk, who she married in 1955.
Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Darrel Belk and her son, Thomas Darrel Belk, Jr.
Peggy is survived by her son, Stephen Kelly Belk; daughter Ansley Belk Gentry (Jim), daughter-in law Liz Belk, and grandchildren Jack Gentry (Jordan), Millie Gentry, Virginia McNeill (Burns) and Cravens Belk (Emilee) and her five great-grandchildren Garland McNeill, Helen McNeill, Ford McNeill, John Thomas Belk and Lauren Belk. She is also survived by her special sister-in-law Loretta Belk.
Peggy was a member of the Heritage Study Club and First United Methodist Church, where she was a long-time member of the Lee Sunday School class.
Peggy had a sharp wit and was always fun to be around. It's been said by many that you always knew where you stood with Peggy. She had a large group of friends with whom she loved travelling and playing bridge and dominos. Her friends could always count on Peggy to fill a spot at the bridge table or join in on a beach trip.
Peggy was a wonderful friend and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed greatly by all that knew and loved her.
The family would like to thank her amazing caregivers for the past three years, Lucille Brown, Lynn Davis, Teresa Radsdale and Dorothy Ryans; her other helpers Linda Keasler and Jen Nichols, and her physician Dr. Brian Wilhite.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First United Methodist Church, 800 Greensboro Ave, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401, or Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Peggy, please visit our floral store.

Peggy was a very special lady that will greatly be missed. She always had a sparkle in her eyes and a smile on her face. I'll never forget the time she was a sub at a weekly neighborhood Canasta game and Peggy told us that we weren't serious enough players for her. When I looked at her with an inquiring look on my face, she gave me a mischievous grin and won the game. Peggy was a wonderful and special graceful woman.
