Peggy A. Gray, age 91, of Orrville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at Wayne County Care Center in Wooster, following a period of declining health.
Peggy was born on April 11, 1934, in Orrville, Ohio, to the late Delmas "Curly" and Hazel (Treadway) Richmond. While working as a waitress at the Manhattan Restaurant in Orrville, she met the love of her life, Robert E. Gray. They were married on October 22, 1955, in Angola, Indiana, and shared 61 wonderful years together before Robert's passing on November 12, 2016.
Peggy and Robert owned and operated their family business, Gray's Mini-Storage in Orrville, for many years. Alongside her work, Peggy was an active member of her community. She was involved in the Mothers' Athletic Club, Women's Bowling League, Orrville American Legion Lodge 282, and VFW Post 3446. She also served as PTO Chair, led a Relay for Life team, and for a time worked as a telephone operator.
Peggy was a devoted mother and grandmother who took great pride in her family. She was an avid sports fan, faithfully supporting her children and grandchildren in their activities and never missing an opportunity to cheer on Ohio State athletics. Her greatest joy came from raising her family and spending time with those she loved most.
She is survived by her children, Donald (Debora) Gray of Orrville, David (Linda) Gray of Orrville, Dale (Donna Yonker) Gray of Orrville, Duane Gray of Orrville, and Mary (Daniel) Lauer of East Greenville; her grandchildren, Michael (Michelle), Joshua (Alicia), Steven (Chrissy), Nathan, Adam, and Anthony Gray, and Daniel Lauer, Jr.; her great-grandchildren, Caleb, Bradley, Nathaniel, Robert, Mason, Joshua, Lexi, Kailynn, Kenadi, Bristol, Savanna, Nichole, Lindsey, Kaylee, Brittany, and Shelby; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Peggy was preceded in death by her grandson, Matthew Gray; great-grandson, Gage Alexander Gray; brothers, Bob and Buddy Richmond; sister, Vernie Sayre; and her niece, Peggy Ann Seggerman.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Auble Funeral Home, 512 East Oak Street, Orrville. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Jim Copenhaver officiating. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville. A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the American Legion in Orrville, 237 E Market St.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio's Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Road, Wooster, OH 44691, or online at www.ohioshospice.org/give
