Peggy Hulsey Obituary

Peggy Jean Hulsey, who graced the world with her kindness and generosity, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025, in Nashville, Tennessee. Born on December 13, 1946, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, Peggy touched the lives of many as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, leaving behind a legacy marked by love and compassion.

For many years, Peggy served as a Deli Clerk and "Chicken Queen" at Kroger's before retiring, where she was known not only for her culinary expertise but also for her sweet and caring nature. Her family fondly remembers the wonderful meals and treats she would prepare throughout the years, showcasing her talent and love for cooking. Peggy's creativity extended beyond the kitchen; she was passionate about crafting, sewing, quilting, making holiday wreaths, crocheting, and crafting paper flowers, all of which brought joy to her family and friends.

Peggy was survived by three of her four loving children, James Defore, Jr., Brenda Kaye (Glenn) Carrington, and Deborah Ann Wilson. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, Jonathan (Tiffany) Defore, Jeremy (Lacy) Cushman, and Josh (Mikayla) Cushman, and delighted in being a great-grandmother to Jonathan Defore, Jr., Justin Defore, Josh Defore, Brandson Carson, Brixtyn Cushman, and Ashlyn Cushman. Her family was her greatest joy, and she took immense pride in her roles as a mother, grandmother, wife, sister, and friend.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husbands, George R Wilson Sr. and Joe K Hulsey, as well as her beloved grandparents, Johnnie and Mammie Swindle, and her parents, Rev. Chester Kilgore and Emma and Joseph Wiley. She also mourned the loss of her son, George R Wilson Jr., sister, Judy Queen; her stepbrother, Alfred Wiley; and her niece, Anna Haney, along with Baby Jax Haney.

In her final moments, a poignant memory surfaced as her son, James, held her hand. He recalled the times she held his hand while they crossed the street, reflecting on the roles they played in each other's lives—now it was his turn to hold hers as she crossed over to be with her Lord and Savior.

Peggy is survived by her uncle, Zeke (Shirley) Swindle; her siblings, Joan (Gerald) Bingham and Linda (Donald) Haney; her brother-in-law, Lessley Queen; her step-siblings, Diane (Kenneth) Wilbanks, Joe Wiley, and Robert Wiley; and her lifelong friend, Joyce Bridges.

Her loving spirit will continue to reside in the hearts of those who knew her. A celebration of her remarkable life will be held on November 14, 2025, at Springfield Memorial Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Springfield, Tennessee, with visitation from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00 PM, and burial commencing at 3:00 PM. Peggy Jean Hulsey will be dearly missed, but her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the memories and hearts of her family and friends.
