Peggy Lund Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Nelson Funeral Care - Cloquet on Sep. 8, 2025.

On September 6, 2025, at Essentia Health–St. Mary's Hospital, Margaret "Peggy" Lund passed away peacefully at the age of 87, surrounded by her family and lifted in prayer.

Peggy was born on January 4, 1938, in Cloquet, Minnesota, to Margaret and Peter Defoe. She grew up in Cloquet, attended Sacred Heart School, and graduated from high school in Flandreau, South Dakota. Over the years, she worked at The Wood Conversion, Big Bucks Bingo, and later as a beloved school cook for the Fond du Lac Ojibwe School.

In her 87 years, Peggy's life was a testament to love, laughter, and light. Her heart guided all that she did-most especially in her marriage to the love of her life, Bob Lund. Peggy and Bob were married on October 6, 1962, and for 63 years shared a bond built on friendship, joy, and endless teasing that was the heart of their family. Together, they raised six children, weaving a life rich in love and memories.

To know Peggy was to know she was always creating or caring for others. She sewed clothing, harvested wild rice, and braided leather in honor of her Native American heritage, of which she was deeply proud. She loved tending her garden, cooking, crafting, and spending time outdoors. Her compassion extended not only to people but to animals as well-whether nurturing the wildlife in her yard or doting on the pets of family and friends. She lived with the spirit of a true caregiver, always giving, always doing.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Michael; her sister, Shirley; and her brothers, Donald and Peter. She is survived by her devoted husband, Bob; her children, Daniel (Melanie) Lund, Tammy (Todd) Dixon, Alvin Lund, Tony Lund, and Janet Lund; her grandchildren, Rebecca, Cayla, Bridget, AJ (Carolyn), Jake, Ty (Raeann), Memphis, Brooke, Ashton, Sarah, Krista, Travis (Hailey), Tamara, Duane, and Destiney; nearly a hundred great-grandchildren; and countless other relatives and friends whose lives she touched. Peggy was a gift to all who knew her, and her presence will be deeply missed.

An evening visitation will be held Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Care. Visitation will continue Friday, September 12, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow at the Cloquet Community Center (ENP).
