Beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Medilodge of Montrose, with her family at her side. Age 93 years.
The daughter of the late Dowell B. and Stella T. (Hougland) Welton, Peggy was born on February 20, 1932, in Flint, Michigan. She married the love of her life, John “Jack” Henry Schardt, on July 30, 1948. He preceded her in death on July 7, 2022. Peggy found joy tending to her garden. Her creative spirit shone through her love for creating ceramics and quilting. She will forever be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.
Surviving are her daughter and two sons, Kim Cooper of Montrose, Kurt (Kay) Schardt of Burt, Ricky (Kelly) Schardt of Burt; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Besides her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her son, Dan Schardt; son-in-law, Jay Cooper; sister, Gail LaMothe.
Honoring Peggy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Rd, Saginaw, MI 48603.
