Penelope Ann Clarke, 67, known affectionately as Penny to her friends and loved ones, passed away at her home in
Athens, PA, on November 6, 2025, following a courageous battle with cancer with her husband and sons by her side. Born on March 7, 1958, at the same home as she passed away in,
Athens, PA., Penny's life was one marked by love, dedication, and a warm, friendly spirit that touched everyone she met.
Penny was a proud graduate of Athens Area High School, Class of 1976, where she formed lasting friendships and laid the foundation for her future achievements. She met her husband and partner Donald Schwarz Jan 26, 1996 while both were working at Lockheed Martin Owego, NY. Soon after they both set out working as contract engineers through the country, spending notable time in South Carolina, Vermont and Ohio. During this time Penelope earned her Bachelor Science in Information Technology. In 2005 Penelope mother died and we purchased her house. We have resided here the past 20 years.
In 2013 we both retired from the corporate world. They started a licensed greenhouse business called P&D Gardens. They sold Flower baskets, herbs, perennial and annual plants at local markets. They were regulars at Athens Stockyards, Sayre Farmers market, Jimmay Conklin flea market. Right up until 2021, purchasing and combining properties together to form a three-lot property at her home. This is what they have been working on for the last 4 years. Penelope and her husband's Symphony wasn't done she was taken too soon.
Penny's life was defined by her loving nature and her unwavering commitment to her family. She found great joy in her marriage to her beloved husband, Donald B. Schwarz, and cherished every moment spent with her children, James (Sandy) Dawson and Derek (Susan) Dawson, as well as her stepchildren, Donald F. Schwarz, William Schwarz, and Erin Schwarz. Penny's world was brightened by the laughter and love of her grandchildren, Lilah and Devin Dawson. She was a sister and friend, leaving behind cherished memories with her siblings, Bill Wandell, Harry (Donna) Wandell, Dawn (Howard) Fenton, and Marlene Edwards. Nieces Faith Miller and Beva Vanderpool, as well as many other nieces and nephews.
Those who knew Penny will fondly recall her loving nature, kindness, and the friendly demeanor that made it a joy to be around her. She was a person who made a lasting impact on the lives of others, offering support and affection in abundance. Penelope and Don love to give to charities, so the family ask that those who wish, kindly donate to the

At Penelope's request, there will be no calling hours. There will be a private family funeral with burial in the Tioga Point Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
