Penny Schrader Obituary

Penny Kay Schrader, 82, of Bellefontaine, passed away peacefully at Logan Acres Care Center on Friday morning, August 8, 2025. She was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio on January 12, 1943, to the late Guy Eugene and Mildred “Millie” (Roberts) Wagaman.

Penny is preceded in death by her husband, Russell G. Schrader who passed on December 30, 2018.

She is survived by her daughters: Shelley (Ted) LaPorte and Sherrey Makemson both of North Carolina; her sister, Nikki Comer; and her six grandchildren: Madeleine (Eric) Checkowski, Claire and Isabelle LaPorte, Olivia, Anna, and Zachary Makemson; as well as many nieces and nephews who will all cherish her memory.

Penny dedicated many years of her life as a registered nurse. She was an active member of the Rushsylvania United Methodist Church and loved spending time with her family. Penny enjoyed painting ceramics, playing cards, spending time in the sun, taking road trips to North Carolina, the beach, and to numerous festivals. She loved making chocolates at Christmas time, traveling and taking cruises with her husband and friends. She had a passion for clog dancing, enjoyed boating, and loved her black labradors, which all brought joy to her life.

Penny was very easy going and would do just about anything for and with family and friends. Her one true love was Russ, and they were simply happy doing everything together. She has missed him dearly since his passing. It is a comfort to know that she is reunited with him and her Lord.

Pastor April Phillips will officiate a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the Rushsylvania United Methodist Church, 152 Rush St, Rushsylvania, Ohio 43347. Inurnment will follow the service at Rushsylvania Cemetery.
