Perry Dayton Reid Sr. ObituaryPerry Dayton Reid, Sr., 77, of Painesville, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, October 26, 2025, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply. Born on October 2, 1948, in Charleston, West Virginia, Perry spent most of his life in Cuyahoga County, where he built a lifetime of memories filled with love, laughter, and adventure.
Perry proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971 during the Vietnam era. Stationed in Thailand, he carried with him a lasting sense of gratitude for having had the honor to serve. His time in the military instilled in him a love of history-especially military history-that stayed with him throughout his life.
A man with an incredible sense of humor and a kid-at-heart spirit, Perry found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved playing golf, especially with his buddies in the Buckeye League, and was always up for a friendly round or two. When not on the course, he could often be found tinkering with his beloved remote-control cars, catching a NASA launch, or rewatching his favorite episodes of Star Trek.
Perry's playful side was ever-present-he loved video games, particularly Tetris and Mario Bros., and he was known for his quick wit, infectious laughter, and knack for teasing and joking with those around him. He was also an avid traveler who cherished trips to North Carolina, Tennessee, and California, enjoying every opportunity to explore and make new memories.
Above all, Perry's greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose love and pride for his family knew no bounds. He will be remembered for his warmth, his humor, and the countless ways he made those he loved feel special and cherished.
Perry is survived by his loving children, Perry D. Reid, Jr. and Christine (Wolfgang) Hofmann his adored grandchildren, Dylon, Duncan, Bridgette, Dustin (Alecia), and Ashleigh; and his treasured great-grandchildren, Frederick and Oliver. He also leaves behind many friends and extended family who will forever miss his kind heart and joyful spirit.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Constance E. Reid (née Greathouse), and his parents, Hively and Delores Reid (née Emboden) and his brothers Harry Reid and Gary Reid.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 19, 2025 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at The Abbey of Willoughby, 38011 Euclid Ave., Willoughby (located on the grounds of the McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home.
Perry will be laid to rest with military honors at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, where his service and sacrifice will be honored on Thursday, November 20, 2025.
Perry lived his life with laughter, curiosity, and love. His heart, his humor, and his generous spirit will never be forgotten by those lucky enough to have known him.
