Peter Cafano Obituary
August 28, 1934 - April 6, 2024
Peter Cafano Jr. (Ret. Lt. Hamden Police Dept.) passed away at home April 6th with his family by his side. Born in New Haven, he was the son of the late Peter and Rose Nista Cafano. He entered the Army during the Korean War at age 19 and served as Honor Guard, 3rd Infantry Regiment. Upon discharge he pursued a career with the Hamden Police Dept. as an officer rising to the rank of Lieutenant. He received 21 Commendations and created the first Gambling, Narcotics, and Arson Squad in the town of Hamden. He attended the Univ. of Connecticut and was a graduate of the FBI Academy and also Polygraph School as well as many other schools to enhance his education. He retired after 25 years of service and became director of Security for Rite Aid Pharmacies in charge of 120 stores in three states. He leaves behind his two sons Peter Cafano III and Michael Cafano, his three grandchildren Lindsey (Darren), Christopher and Nicholas Cafano, and his longtime loving companion Annette Lucarelli. He was predeceased by his wife Ruth (Krampitz) Cafano. Calling hours will be held THURSDAY from 5 - 7 p.m. in the Peter H. Torello & Son F.H, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden. Friends are invited to go directly to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Friday at 10:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian burial. Interment with full military honors will follow in Centerville Cemetery.

Sorry for the loss of your Dad and companion to Annette. I worked with him at Aquatek Labs and have fond memories of our many conversations. I will always remember your dad as a man with great style and love for his family. RIP Pete.

I am very saddened by the loss of my friend and former co-worker. Pete and I were both former police officers, and then subsequently worked together as Division Security Managers for the Rite Aid drug store chain. He trained me for the position in 1989, and he covered all their stores in western New England and I had eastern New England. Although we only worked for 9 months together until I moved on, Pete and I always got along very well, and we´ve kept in touch over the years. We would occasionally meet in Old Saybrook for lunch. I´m going to miss my friend. Rest in eternal peace Brother and God Bless your family. Always your friend, Murrie

I first met Pete at a Rite Aid drug store in Providence, RI during February of 1989. I had just been hired as a Division Security Manager to handle all their stores in eastern New England for internal and external theft. Pete was the Manager for the western New England stores, and he was the one assigned to train me. We were both former and retired police officers. Well anyway, we hit it off from the get go, and have kept in touch over the years. Pete was a wonderful guy, and always treated me very well. He loved his family and always talked about them. He was also very proud to have been a Hamden police LT. We used to meet for lunch every so often in Old Saybrook and talk about some of our experiences as Security Managers at Rite Aid back in the late 80´s. I was very saddened to learn of Pete´s loss from his son Michael yesterday. Pete, I´ll miss you, and may you rest in eternal peace Brother.
