Peter Cussen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Clayton Funeral Home, Inc. - Kings Park on Nov. 27, 2024.
Peter J. Cussen Jr., a lifelong resident of Kings Park, NY, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on August 5, 1937, at Dr. King's Hospital in Bayshore, NY.
Peter was the beloved son of Peter Cussen Sr. and Mary Jane Cussen (née Meehan). Peter is survived by his extraordinarily patient wife, Patricia Cussen, his son, Stephen Cussen, his adoring grandchildren, Connor and Sophie Cussen, and his brother, Brendan Cussen.
A graduate of Bishop Loughlin High School and Adelphi University, Peter led a diverse career, starting as a lifeguard, working as a nurse at the Kings Park Psychiatric Hospital, and ultimately retiring after a long tenure at the Suffolk County Department of Labor.
Peter was an avid reader with a deep love of books, both read and unread. His ever-growing library was a testament to his insatiable curiosity, often joking that an unread book was better than no book at all. Conversations with Peter were famously engaging and, at times, lengthy; his enthusiasm often meant you were wise to visit the bathroom beforehand.
A lover of dad jokes, Peter had a particular fondness for quips like: "What do you call a hoarder of books? Smart." His humor was matched by his generosity, there wasn't a charity, especially a school for the blind, that he didn't want to support. In fact, Peter may have been one of the few people who actually donated a car to 1-800-KARS4KIDS.
Above all, Peter will be remembered as a generous and loving husband, father, grandfather and
deeply missed by many.
