Peter Dito Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ferrara Colonial Mortuary - Orange on Dec. 13, 2025.
Peter Mario Dito, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and a beacon of light to all who knew him, passed away on December 11, 2025, in Anaheim, California, at the age of 80. Born on May 24, 1945, in San Francisco, California, Peter's life was a tapestry of dedication, love, and laughter, woven through the years with the golden threads of family and faith.
Peter's early years were spent in the vibrant city of San Francisco, where he attended St. Ignatius High School, laying a foundation of lifelong friendships and values. His pursuit of knowledge took him to Gonzaga University in Washington, where fate serendipitously led him to Patricia Leonora Gilmore. Their love blossomed over four years of courtship, culminating in a marriage that was a testament to devotion, celebrating over 58 remarkable years together.
After Gonzaga, Peter furthered his education at Seattle University, where he earned his degree in Civil Engineering. This marked the beginning of an illustrious career that spanned over five decades in the Oil Pipeline industry. Peter's professional journey was marked by his commitment to excellence, earning him several certifications and acknowledgments that reflected his expertise and dedication.
Peter's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. A true train enthusiast, he could spend endless hours watching trains and cherished his Lionel Model Train collection. His adventurous spirit led him to undertake several long-distance bicycle trips, embracing the freedom and challenge of the open road. Peter also had a keen eye for photography, capturing moments with a unique timing that became a playful topic among his family.
His intellectual curiosity was insatiable, particularly when it came to astronomy and the cosmos, and his love for learning and studying was evident to all who knew him. Peter's sense of humor was infectious, and his repertoire of dad jokes never failed to bring smiles to the faces of those around him. His unique fashion sense was an endearing trait that his family both questioned and admired.
At the heart of Peter's life was his unwavering spirituality. A man of Catholic Faith, he lived his beliefs with a sincerity that inspired others. His generosity knew no bounds, and his intelligence was matched only by his capacity for kindness.
Peter is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Dito; his daughters, Melissa "Mitzi" Jane Dito and Cassandra Marie Josephine Loney; his son, Paul Steven Dito and his wife, Catherine; his grandchildren, Christine Marie Dito, Emma Lucia Loney, Stephanie Elizabeth Dito, and Matthew Everett Loney; his sister, Elizabeth Rose Simmons; and his brother, Salvatore "Skip" Dito. Each of these individuals was touched by Peter's generous spirit, his intelligent guidance, and his unwavering love and support.
A man of many virtues, Peter Mario Dito will be remembered as a beacon of light in the lives of those he touched. His legacy of laughter, generosity, and wisdom will continue to guide and inspire his family and friends for generations to come. Peter's journey through life was one of purpose, joy, and boundless love, and the memories he created will be cherished forever.

Pete and I hopped a freight train in Spokane in 1964 and rode to Portland. He had someone bring his Honda 50 scooter to Portland then tried to drive it to SF but it blew up on the way. The trip to Portland had many setbacks which I could share with someone if they had any interest. Pete was one unique enjoyable guy. Lucky for me that I got to know him..Dennis Mayer

Oh Pete, you will be missed.
Loved your sense of humor and always so fun when you were around. So glad I got to know you and Pat at the Italian club. You leave a huge legacy behind. May you rest in peace, gone too soon.
