Peter Gakos, 78, of Norwalk, beloved husband for 51 years to Kathleen Curran Gakos, peacefully passed away at home on August 18, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on April 19, 1947 in Thessaloniki, Greece to Tim and Chris Bali Gakos and moved to Astoria Queens, NY at age four.

He graduated from William Cullen Bryant High School in Queens and earned his B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from New York Institute of Technology. Afterwards, he settled in Norwalk and worked as an engineer with Norden's where he met his wife, Kathleen. Being passionate about math and problem solving, Peter later received his Masters degree in Operations Research from the University of Bridgeport. He went on to work with Perkin-Elmer in Norwalk for many years as a Manager of Manufacturing Engineering. While there, he led a team of engineers in the custom development of analytical instruments used to perform tests on products and equipment.

Peter volunteered in the Norwalk community, including coaching International Little League baseball at Calf Pasture Beach, coaching Parochial league basketball at St. Thomas the Apostle school on East Avenue, and making pizzas at the annual St. Thomas Church carnival.

He was proud of his Greek heritage, enjoyed cooking Greek and American dishes to share with others, and loved spending time with his family, who was most important to him. He especially enjoyed watching the N.Y. Mets and visiting Cape Cod with them.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents and his brother. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen, and their three sons, Peter, Robert, and Kevin (Laurie). He adored his seven grandchildren, Cole, Chase, Kyle, Curran, Kinzey, Keeley, and Kaia Gakos.

Per his wishes, services will be private.

Donations may be made in his name to The Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Foundation or to the Whittingham Cancer Center of Norwalk Hospital.

May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields, and, until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
