Obituary of Peter A. Hewel
Peter Allen Hewel, owner of 845 Clean and a 27-year resident of the area, died peacefully at
home with his loving wife Lisa by his side. He was 59.
The son of the late Paul and Mary Louise Johnson Hewel, he was born July 16, 1964 in Peekskill.
Peter was a graduate of Storm King School in Cornwall-on-Hudson and attended the University
of Bridgeport as a photography major. He previously owned and operated his own photo studio and lab in

Society of Middletown, SCATS, Walden Humane Society, Pets Alive and Dumped/Stray Animal Rescue
and TARA. He was also co-founder of the Catskill Astronomy Club.
Peter loved to cook and entertain family and friends. He was famous for his lasagna, stuffed
shells and antipasto. He was an avid New York Yankees fan, and loved traveling to Puerto Rico, Saratoga
Springs, Vermont and Hampton Beach, New Hampshire. As a child, he spent many summers in Old
Forge and other Adirondack locations, and enjoyed returning to that area as often as possible.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lisa Scarano Hewel, at home. He is also survived by his
father-in-law, Louis Scarano Sr. of Newburgh; brother-in-law Louis Scarano Jr. and his wife Gina of
Helena, Alabama; brother-in-law John Scarano of Newburgh; sister-in-law Helene Molzahn and her
husband Dan of Monroe; brother-in-law Richard Scarano and his wife Rosemarie of Middletown, and

nephews, all whom he adored: Michele Farrell, Dominic Scarano, Richard Scarano and his wife Kimberley,
all of Middletown; Christian Farrell of Middletown; Michael Scarano and his wife Katelyn of Beesemer,
Alabama; Andrea Molina and her husband Matthew of San Antonio, Texas; Emily Colson and her
husband Tim of Walden; Alexis Scarano and her fiancé Fernando Aguilar of Newburgh; Daniel and

Middletown; Poppy and Piper Scarano of Beesemer, Alabama; Jackson, Chase and Clayton Colson of
Walden; Julianna Velasquez of Newburgh; and London Pagan of Westtown, as well as many aunts, uncles
and cousins, and cherished friend Melinda Applegate of Long Branch, NJ. Peter also leaves behind his beautiful spoiled
black cats Chloe and Zac.
He was predeceased by his parents, mother-in-law Bertha Mingolla Scarano
and brother-in-law William Ney.
Many thanks to Orange and Sullivan Hospice staff Cassidy, Mary, Suzanne, Amanda, Jamie,
Christine, Christy, Laura and Margaret, as well as Dr. Jason Taniguchi for their care and compassion.
