Peter Kanelos Obituary

Peter (Panagiotis) Kanelos, of Indian Land, South Carolina, fell asleep in the lord on Monday, September 29th, 2025, embraced by the love of his family.

He will be lovingly missed by his wife Anna (nee. Karsiotis) Kanelos of Indian Land; his son Dino Kanelos and his wife Sharon of Marvin, North Carolina; his daughter Eleni (Lena) and her husband Dean Stamoulis of Worcester, Massachusetts; his grandchildren Melina Kanelos, Nicholas Stamoulis, Peter (Panagiotis) Stamoulis, and Ariana Kanelos; his brother John Kanelos of Cincinnati, Ohio; his sister Afroditi of New York City; and many loving cousins, in laws, nieces, nephews, and friends in Greece and the United States. In paradise, he joins his grandson Lucas in watching over their loved ones.

He was born on October 1, 1941 of humble means in the village of Skoteini, Greece to Konstantinos and Eleni (nee. Kapouralis) Kanellopoulos. In 1957, at the young age of sixteen, he traveled to the United States with the ambition to pursue a better life and the American dream. Having arrived in Cincinnati, Ohio, he set out with hard work, and guided by his virtues and driven spirit, established many successful businesses together with his father, his brother, and many cousins and uncles.

In the summer of 1968, while travelling back to Greece, he happened, by fortune, upon his wife Anna, who remained his lifelong partner of fifty seven years. Together they started a family, travelled the world, shared many laughs, and enjoyed a long and bountiful happiness. He thrived in his retirement, where he passed the time with his many friends and continued his competitive spirit on the bocce court and horseshoe pit, where he proudly won many tournaments.

He will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father and pappou, who gave his all for his family's betterment; an outgoing and generous friend; a phenomenal Greek dancer (particularly the Tsamikos); and a man of abundant dignity and piety in the lord. MAY HIS MEMORY BE ETERNAL!

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church, 5108 Kuykendall Road, Charlotte, NC 28270
