Peter Thomas Kaufman, age 94 of Antigo, passed away peacefully at home March 11, 2025, with his devoted wife of 43 years, Carli, by his side. He was born March 1, 1931, at home in Mattoon. Born the eighth of nine children to Nellie (Ringstad) and Edward Kaufman, he was the last survivor of this large and loving family.
Peter loved to bowl and be at the ball field. As a natural athlete, he spent many years playing baseball and softball for Birnamwood and Eland. His greatest love was his family and spending time with them was critically important, especially his grandchildren. Almost every weekend was spent with family until these later years.
A United States Navy veteran, he served during the Korean War. Peter was a rural mail carrier for 30 years, and he and his first wife Millie owned several local businesses in Birnamwood, Wittenberg, and Eland.
Peter is survived by his wife, Carli (Eckardt) Kaufman; son, Jeffrey (Katie) Kaufman; daughters, Beth (David) Hoffman and Kari Kaufman Enders; grandchildren, Hailey (Chad) Zick, Chelsey (James) Jernberg, Brittany (Jeremy) Pratt, Lacey (Mike) McRoy, Abby Kaufman, Terah (Kyle) Skopick, and Jase Hoffman. He was blessed with ten great-grandchildren, Samantha, Hannah, Landrey, Livvey, Levvin, Oslo, Gatsby, Finola, Silvia and Flora.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings and their spouses, numerous nieces and nephews, his stepson, Denny Gechas, and his first wife, Millie.
A service of remembrance will be held on Friday, April 11 at 11 a.m. at the Bradley Funeral Home with Chaplain James Hartleben officiating. Burial will take place at St. Boniface Cemetery in Aniwa.
Visitation will be on Friday, April 11 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Special thank you to the staff of LeRoyer Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Peter and his family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to LeRoyer Hospice, 112 E. 5th Ave, Antigo, WI 54409.
