Peter Mahoney Obituary

Peter Mahoney of Stony Point, NY passed away on June 19, 2024, after a brave battle with cancer. He was 57.
He is predeceased by his mother, Ann Geraldine (Lovett) Mahoney and Peter Mahoney, Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Tan and brother, Don Mahoney.
He attended St. Gregory Barbarigo Elementary School and St. Joseph Regional High School. He graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas College in 1989.
He had over 35 years of experience in the insurance industry.
He had a passion for NY sport teams and Rock music. He loved spending time with friends and going to ballgames & concerts.
He was a proud member of the Atonement Lutheran Church in Stony Point.
Peter was always ready to help volunteer for charitable events. He volunteered at the North Rockland Community Day Race for 17 years. He participated in many clothing and food drives. Peter also donated his time to the Marisa Fund, an organization that raises money to research, treat, and care for children with cancer. For 22 years, Peter volunteered at the Marisa Fund Thanksgiving Turkey Trot, the largest charitable race in Rockland County.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2024 from 2-6 pm at T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville, NY.

I lived across the street from the Mahoney's in Stony Point. I also briefly worked with Pete at Bear Mtn. State Park. Pete was a very sweet person with a wonderful sense of humor. I have very fond memories of him and his family.

Dear Pete and Family, It was a great honor for me to meet you in this life, at work at ARS. You were the most kind and sweet person with great knowledge, always ready to help others, always smiling, if we were all like you, it would be heaven on earth. I believe and know that you are now with God, face to face, so happy, young and healthy again. Now you are our private Angel, so please intercede for us. I wish you to be the happiest child in heaven with your family, friends and certainly with our Steven Esteves, so that you can all enjoy together the fullness of God's goodness.

Pete had the kindest heart. He was always smiling and so welcoming. His gregarious nature made everyone around him feel at ease. He is greatly missed.

I loved sharing a meal with him. He truly appreciated my cooking! A friend like Pete is irreplaceable. He was more of a brother than a friend.
