Peter Maltone Obituary

PETER "BUDDY" MALTONE

August 18, 1953 – July 5, 2025

Bakersfield – Peter Peter "Buddy" Maltone was born in Marysville, California, on August 18, 1953, to Peter and Faye Maltone. He excelled in many sports throughout his childhood, including baseball, football, and skateboarding. He made many lifelong friends during his school years and graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1971. He briefly studied at Bakersfield College in 1972-1973 before pursuing his passion in sales.

Buddy's extraordinary talent as a sales professional was put to good use when he joined Stier's Leisure Vehicles in 1973. At that time, RVs were first becoming popular, and over the years, Buddy combined his tireless energy, boundless enthusiasm, and unique ability to "connect" with people to build personal success. The expanding RV industry and growing Kern County presented the ideal time and place for Buddy to utilize his exceptional skills. In 1989, he joined Venture Out RV as General Manager and became a partner in the company in 2002. Buddy spearheaded Venture Out's expansion into a massive new dealership facility in 2004, creating the nation's largest indoor RV showroom. In 2007, Buddy and his business partner sold Venture Out to Camping World, a publicly traded RV group. After the sale, Buddy retired from day-to-day management to finally relax, golf, and spend more time with his family.

Buddy was a beloved husband, father, son, grandpa, and friend. He spent 33 years with the love of his life, his wife, Connie, creating memories with the girls, traveling, building their dream home, watching movies, hanging out with the grandkids, and caring for their dog, Bebe, and their granddog, Henry.

As a passionate sports enthusiast, Buddy enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing, hunting, golfing, and socializing with his friends over lunch. His greatest joy in his later years was spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren play sports. For decades, every Sunday meant family dinner at Buddy and Connie's house. It was a special tradition that brought everyone together and will always be treasured.

Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Faye Maltone. He is survived by his wife, Connie Maltone; his children, Jocelyn (Mike) Babb and Breanne Martin; his grandchildren, Keller, Maguire, and Quinn Babb, and Van and Gia Martin; and many cherished friends.

A service will be held to honor Buddy's life on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at Greenlawn Funeral Home (2739 Panama Lane). In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Wounded Warriors Project.

My first memories of Buddy was walking down the alley holding hands with my big brother Greg (12 years older) to talk to his friend Buddy. I was little and he was always so nice to me. He was loud and funny. I remember him being around always with Greg and their lifelong friends. He had the best laugh.
We went camping every year with my parents and friends and family in June to Alder Creek and Buddy was usually there. Those were really good times. Later on I really only saw him at funerals but it was like seeing family. He was still loud and still funny.
We moved to Kansas last year so I won´t be able to attend his funeral but my heart and prayers are with you all. Rest in peace sweetie, I love ya Buddy.
