Msgt. Peter W. Manning, 90, a longtime resident of Dracut, passed away peacefully at Lowell General Hospital on Monday, May 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Maria J. (Ferreira) Manning with whom he enjoyed 53 years of marriage before she passed in 2011.
He was born in Dracut on January 27, 1935, and was the son of the late William and Pauline (Mastacouras) Manning.
A retired Marine, Peter was a member of the Marine Corp League of New Hampshire. He fought in Vietnam after he entered the service in 1953 and retired with honors in 1975. During his time in the Marines, Peter traveled the world and met his wife in Lisbon, Portugal. After he retired from the military, he went back to school at Northern Essex Community College, where he received an associate degree. He worked for Frito Lay for 18 years as a truck driver and then was employed by the IRS as a security guard.
Peter is survived by his daughters: Pauline Morrilly and her husband Steve of Fitzwilliam, NH, Anne-Marie Manning of Tampa, FL, Susan Lawrenson and her husband Dave of Dracut, MA, and Marina Cantalupo of Westford, MA; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Esther Golles, Mary Panagakos, Helen Palealogas, Georgia (Voula) Roux, Emily Manning, and Costas Maniatakos.
He was pre-deceased by his wife Maria Jose Manning and his daughter, Katherine Kennett, as well as his siblings, Joan Bellefeuille, Tony Manning, and Johnny Manning.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave., DRACUT. A graveside service will immediately follow at 11:30 am at Oakland Cemetery, DRACUT.
