Peter Albert McGuigan, 65, of Wall Township, passed away unexpectedly on September 5, 2024, at the Jersey Shore Medical Center, with his devoted family by his side. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Pete grew up in Matawan, NJ, and raised his family at the Jersey Shore. He attended St. John Vianney High School in Matawan, where he excelled in both baseball and wrestling. Pete earned a BS in accounting from Montclair State University, where he met his wife, Laura, and played on the lacrosse and wrestling teams. Pete began his career at EY before founding and managing his own firm, McGuigan Tombs & Company, CPAs, servicing local and regional clients throughout New Jersey and New York. He led his successful firm for 26 years before merging it with Withum Smith+Brown. Throughout adulthood, Pete was dedicated to serving his community and those around him. He was actively involved with several charitable organizations, serving as Board Member of both the Solace House and the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Coastal and Northern New Jersey, where he held the position of First Vice President of the Board of Trustees. Pete was a "Big" himself, mentoring his Little Brother Daniel from age six into adulthood, nurturing their friendship long beyond the end of their formal match. In 2022, Pete was honored as Big Brother of the Year by Big Brothers Big Sisters State Association of New Jersey. Pete was an avid golfer and a proud member of Manasquan River Golf Club, where he served as Treasurer of the Board, enjoyed the beautiful course, and made lasting friendships. He loved to be physically active and competed in sports his whole life, sharing that love with his four daughters. Pete proudly coached his girls in softball for South Wall Little League and for Saint Denis School in Manasquan, where he also launched the girls' softball program.
Pete was so proud of his and Laura's large family. He was predeceased by his father, Peter J. McGuigan, and his brother, Mark McGuigan. Pete is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Laura (Punderson) McGuigan; his four cherished daughters, Jane (Jack) Losinger of Avon by the Sea, Deirdre (Alex) King of Spring Lake, Carolyn (Ryan) Shallcross of Westfield, and Grace (Dan) Collins of Ocean Twp; and his adoring grandchildren, Peter, Genevieve, and Katharine Losinger, Iris, Albie, Delphine, and Susanna King, and Reid and Melanie Shallcross. In addition, Pete is survived by his loving mother, Doris McGuigan; his brothers Michael and Chris (Christina) McGuigan; his sister Maura (Tim) Andersen; his sister-in-law Sharon McGuigan; his nieces Meghan, Anna, Jenna, Madelyn, Tarah and his nephew Jack. Pete was also close with the extended Punderson family, including many in-laws, nieces, and nephews, who all loved him dearly. He leaves behind a treasure trove of friends whom he made everywhere he went, including teammates, colleagues, clients, neighbors, and golf buddies. Pete will be remembered for his generosity, his jokes and his big heart. He will be missed by so many.

I remember starting off at St. John Vianney as a shy overwhelmed freshman and because it was alphabetical, Pete McGuigan was seated directly across from me also looking very shy and quiet too...even more than me!
Pete and the rest of the team always looked gaunt and hungry during wrestling season trying to stay in their weight category, and I remember in senior year they had a very good baseball team, and Maura, his little 9 yr. old sister would be talking to me while she proudly watched her big brother, Pete, play baseball.

When my sister opened up a little Irish style bake shop that moved to its Sea Girt location in 1993, Pete surprised me by stopping in...and I didn't recognize him at first! When I tried to organize an SJV reunion in 2007, Pete was one of only 10 people who replied and sent his check in early.
We always had great conversations but my favorite memory was the last time I spoke with him when we had our last reunion at Tom and Theresa Ganter's house in October 2017. We were at the little bar next to the kitchen talking nonstop about life...college, current politics, radio stations we listened to, etc. ....it was such a good conversation that I always remembered how much I enjoyed talking to him...he had a mischievous sense of humor and was always very down to earth, and we were huddled in the corner laughing and exchanging funny stories for a long time. I always thought we would have many more conversations at other get togethers, and now I know we won't..... I'll always wish we could have, but I guess one can only be grateful that the moments in life were there at all...It was so good to know him and it makes me realize that we were all very lucky to have had him in our high school class.
