Peter Erik Olsen

Peter Erik Olsen, age 50, of Hutchinson died on Thursday, September 27, 2018. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday October 11,2018 at Cornerstone Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Johnson Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield and also one hour prior to the service at church. Peter, the son of Erik and Sonja (Kirkegaard) Olsen, was born on November 11, 1967, in Minneapolis, MN. He grew up in Richfield and graduated from Richfield High School in 1986. He continued his education at Normandale Community College, later transferring to Mankato State University and then St. Cloud State University, playing football at each school. When his mother died, Peter moved back home to be with his dad, who died a short time later. He worked various jobs while in Richfield before moving to the Brainerd Lakes area. There he worked with his college roommate and longtime friend, Brian Chileen, in the Chileen family painting business. Peter became a part of the Chileen family; attending their events and enjoying the Chileen hunting party over the years. In 1996, he began working for Building Restoration Corporation, which eventually brought a return to Richfield. He was united in marriage to Emily Borkenhagen on March 15, 2003 in San Diego. The union created a blended family of children, one of “his” and two of “hers” as they resided in Lakeville. The addition of two of “theirs” brought a move to Hutchinson in 2006. Peter’s passions were his children and coaching. He especially enjoyed coaching football and baseball for his boys’ teams. Peter also loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. In 2015, after a significant decline in his health, Peter retired. He attended Cornerstone Church in Litchfield and was a member of His Sheepdogs Men’s Group. He was also a member of Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited. Peter is survived by his wife, Emily Olsen, of Hutchinson; children Tyler Olsen of Farmington, Hudson Darnell, Hathaway Darnell, Landon Olsen and Odin Olsen, all of Hutchinson. He is also survived by his sister Karla (Rhod) Beckles, of Norfolk, VA and a special cousin, Ginny Leppart, of Eden Prairie, who was more of a “big sister” than cousin. He was preceded in death by his parents.
