Peter Stanley Szurek
age 74, died peacefully at Maplewood Rehabilitation Center, MN on December 27, 2024. Formerly of St. Anthony Village, MN.
Pete graduated from St. Anthony Village High School. He received a bachelor's degree from the Minneapolis School of Art and Design for Commercial Art. Pete worked at the Star Tribune as a Graphic Artist for 27 years. Pete enlisted in the Army in 1968 and proudly served in Korea for 2 years. He was a member of the VFW Post 7555 for many years.
Pete is survived by girlfriend Kathy Caesar (son's Justin and Christopher), son Rick Szurek, and son Peter (Paulette) Szurek. Loving grandfather to Caleb Gruden (Katerina), Andrew Szurek, Alexander Szurek, and Ashley Szurek, (Kathy) James, Eleanor, Roslyn, Lucy, Olivia, and Grace. Brother to Jerry Szurek and Kathy Chabot (Szurek). Uncle to many nieces and nephews (Scott, Kristi, Ben, Sheri, and Roni).
Preceded in death by his parents, Katherine and Andrew Szurek.

Pete enjoyed going to his cabin and spending time in nature. He had a passion for trees. He loved going for walks around Potato Lake with Kathy and sitting around a bonfire. Pete's grandchildren have many memories of all the wildlife that they have gotten to see at the cabin. They loved to go for boat rides, swim, and fish. Grandpa Pete loved to watch them catch snakes, frogs, and fireflies. Grandpa Pete had truly made a place that was a haven for all wildlife and a dream for any kid. Pete's grandchildren will always be thankful for the fun days fishing and relaxing by the fire. Grandpa Pete, you have taught us all so many important life lessons. But the most important was to work hard and be true to your word. We love you and will forever miss you Grandpa Pete.
We will gather to celebrate the life of Peter Stanely Szurek at Washburn McReavy on January 10th, 2025. Visitation will be from 9:30am-10:30am. Service will begin at 11am, luncheon to follow. At 1:30pm there will be a procession to Fort Snelling for placement of his remains.
